rufus wainwright concert = FUCKING AWESOME

Dec 15, 2003 00:59

so, just got back from my second rufus concert!!!

maria and I went to eat at westlake before heading to the theatre (the moore) to get our seats. we were sitting in a pretty good spot, about 18 rows back and on the left. I bought a t-shirt with one of the pictures from rufus' new album on it (rufus in the knight armor lying in the weeds). it's hawt.

martha, his sister, opened for him, as usual. she has a great voice. her gesticulating during her songs reminded me of tori amos humping her piano.

and then, RUFUS!!!
he looked SO fucking adorable... pinstripe pants, and an olive sweater with leather elbow patches, that he proudly proclaimed purchasing (alliteration, teehee) at a store on capitol hill. he also wore a grey cabbie driver's hat, and clogs, and, ohmygawd, it was the cutest outfit I've ever seen him in.

he made some classic lines, just like he's known to... here's some of what I remember:

--"my voice sounds a little cruddy tonight, sorry... but, uh, since I'm in seattle, that's the cool thing for singers to have. I mean, this is the place to be for that."
--[singing]"cigarettes and chocolate milk... these are just a couple of my cravings... everything is seems is just a little bit strangest...a little but something... heh... [laughs]"
--[before singing "gay messiah"] "this is a song I wrote from the confusion of all the stuff going on in the world... with islam, christianity, politics, religion... it's all so much to handle, so many different sides to choose... but I'm gay. and, uh, this song is for all the people who are being left out from all that other stuff."
--"I'm wearing this hat because I have dr. seuss hair tonight." (guy in audience: "show us!!!") [rufus removes his hat, ruffles his hair] "oh... god. terrible."
--"your air is so clean here. or is that portland? I think-- no, okay, it's here."

and there were others, but that's all I remember now.

when he sang the "oh what a world WE live in!!" song, he told us all to imagine the witch from the wizard of oz in the beginning. (that was another quote: "try to keep the wizard of oz on your mind. I mean, everyone should always be thinking of the wizard of oz. ...or, maybe that's just me.")
anyway, I was confused by it until they reached the last few bars of the song. rufus and the band all started to shrivel and crumple to the floor, pretending to melt like the wicked witch!!! it was SOOOOO CUUUUTE!!!!
(another quote: "it's really hard to melt in clogs!!")

he sang my favorite songs, like "cigarettes and chocolate milk" (although he forgot the words) and "imaginary love" and "beauty mark" and lots others. he sang a song for his dad I'd never heard, and a french song I'd never heard. he talked a little bit about want two, the next album, which will have "gay messiah" on it.

just like last time, when he said he was leaving, we stood and clapped long enough to bring him back. then, when he left again, he came back for a second time to play "imaginary love." yes, we are a loving crowd in seattle... we love our gay musicians.

maria, bless her soul, was cool with waiting outside for an hour plus for him to come out. when he did, all in his cute clothes, we got to see him!! I got my "poses" album insert signed, and maria had him sign a hot wheels toy car. I also had my picture taken with him!!!!
but, finding that the autograph on the car smeared instantly, we went to the back of the crowd and waited for him to approach us again. we showed him the car, and he awwwwed, and to make up for it, we had him sign the legs of our jeans!!!!!!
(and yes, this all does require lots of exclamation points!!!!!!!!!!!)

so, yes, it kicked ass to the max, and I'm so glad we got to go. it was seriously hardkore.
to make the night better, we went to a cafe afterward, and the waiter said it was last call, and promptly offered us a drink menu. we totally could have gotten away with ordering some drinks. but, austin is going to introduce me to some girly drinks at some point (he makes a mean margarita, so it's told), and I'm holding off until he can show me the ropes.

and, maria gave me part of my christmas present-- a box (very very special box, teehee) and an ELVIS RING. yes. believe it.

and I'm so so so happy. I'll upload the pics as soon as I get them back! fear not! ;D

anyway... 's 1:20 now... and Imma go get set for beddums. going to bed in my new wufus shirt, teeheeheehee. *grinning like a moron*
