Salon's independent film critic, Andrew O'Hehir, has published a
transcript and podcast of his interview with Steven Soderbergh about Soderbergh's new film THE GIRLFRIEND EXPERIENCE (2009). I wrote about Soderbergh and his career in my review of
OCEAN'S THIRTEEN (2007). In THE GIRLFRIEND EXPERIENCE, Soderbergh follows his approach from the film
BUBBLE (2005), in that he has cast non-actors to play the roles in his story, which is about the releationships of a high-price call girl and her "real life" boyfriend. Only this time, the person playing the call girl (Sasha Grey) is not exactly a non-actor, but a porn actor with (according to
IMDB) 162 film credits since 2006.[*] I didn't know IMDB tracks porn films... live and learn. Anyway, good interview. I can't wait to see the film, and I really must set aside 4 hours to watch Soderbergh's CHE (2008).
Salon has also posted a video interview with Sasha Grey about making the film,
here.
[*] I'm going to avoid making snarky comments about Sasha Grey's film resume, but I must say I'm impressed at the output. Fifty films in 2008... that's one every week with ten days off for vacation. That's very regular work.
