screen printing pictures. :)

So I spent all day in the textiles studio doing one more screen print then I needed to do for the assignment. (Yeah crazy me with no life, nothing new there.) But I'm glad I did it, I like the way it turned out despite my uncertainty as to whether or not I could do what I wanted to do.

So this is what I started out with. (All of these are about 24in by 18in, so this is just a section of each that would fit on the scanner. They look decidedly much nicer if you see the whole thing but yeah.) It was a random squiggly shape, and six different colors. I started out doing it all nice and neat. Just a little over lapping of each shape one right after the other.

Only then I realized that I liked the random affect I was getting on my test sample better. So I went back over the nice neatness and put a few more in there. Well to make a long story short, it didn't really work and I don't like it. However that is where I started this project out at last weekend.

From that one I went on to something a little more frilly and a lot more delicate. I went on the burnt orange cloth that I'd died. I died a couple of pieces of cloth the first day while I was working on the horrible squiggles, an orange and a blue/torquoise colored piece of cloth. Well not really caring for the bright white and the way it looked I decided to go for the color since color is always nice and I love the burnt orange. (side tracked I dyed a piece of cloth a similiar color for my mom today for a fall talbe runner)

Anyway so the pretty swirly design's actually came off an image I saw of an iron table that had the nice curly things on it. So I wanted to do something with that sort of idea. The burnt orange color I mixed and started with ended up looking really light and while I liked it I wanted something that stood out a little more. So I put the green over the top of it so that the orange ended up like shadows. Over all I'm pretty happy with the way that, that one turned out.

So going from there I decided I wanted to do something with trees and that I wanted to do something halloween'ish. So the purple bit of cloth was up.

It didn't really turn out halloween'ish. But I kinda like it. I actually want to go back and put ghost's in the trees or something like that. I was going to do that today but the last one took all my time so that didn't happen. However it's not horrible the way it is. *chuckles*

However, the orange's didn't go over on the purple the way that I wanted them to and I really liked the way that they stood out sharply on my white test samepl.

So for my next one I decided to go back and try another piece of white. You know even if I decide not to keep the white I can go back and dye it anyway. Which I still might though at the moment it's white. The other idea in the back of my head at the moment since I still wasn't sure how to do the underwater one that I wanted to do, was MUSHROOMS! Lol actually toad stools however unfortunately I ended up not doing the toad stools. I would still like to try them at somep oint but yeah. Times always a problem and tomorrow is water color home work.

The scan for this one doesn't really do it justice at all. Anyway the mushrooms are done in three different colors and the squares are all in orange and purples. There's some green in the mushroom's too but I covered most of that up. With this one I still feel like it need something however I'm not sure what to do with it and I don't want to just go do something without being sure cause then I might not like it in the end.

Which brings me to the last one I did. The underwater one. I finally just decided that I was going to have to just jump in and do it even though I still really wasn't sure how it was going to turn out.

But having spent all day today doing another one that I didn't need to do. I'm happy with the way that it turned out. Even when I was doing it I wasn't sure that it was going to work and then it did.

Anyway on this one, I started with the edges and just kept layering it in, (which is why it took so long because it's got so many layers on it). But I had the idea to put the mermaid's in it last night and there are a couple of them in there. One is up towards the top right and part of one is at the bottom of the scan. The only thing that I was a little disappointed with in this one was the fact that I couldn't seen through my screen well enough to place the heads of hair on top of the mermaid's exactly right. So they are kinda askew but for the most part I'm really happy with the way everything else turned out.

I almost just left it without the mermaid's in it cause it looked neat without. But I had to do something. If it wasn't fairy's hiding the forest.. well mermaids in the water is good to.

Anyway yeah. So there's the samples for the screen printing project. I'm not sure about the larger piece that we have to do. We'll see if he gives a bit more information on that before I think too seriously about it. I have a large piece of died gauzy stuff that I might try doing something with. But we'll see.

You know I like my brother but I hate it when he comes over cause he always plays the stupid piano! *poofs*
