I've been bumming around the house all day, because I wasn't able to go to San Antonio with
serrahok and
hoper (someone had to watch the babies). I didn't think I would be this upset, since I only met Crystal one time, but today is
crystella's funeral and I wanted to say a few more words about her.
I remember Kathy telling me all about her SA folks and I heard some crazy stories, so to finally be able to put faces to names was pretty cool. When we were there the girls and guys lived in a Duplex right next to one another. They came and went into each other's apartments like they lived there. I thought it was so neat they had that kind of relationship.
I can't remember how the event's transpired, but everyone headed into town except Crystal and I. She asked for my help bathing her dog, Tinky. It was really cool that she accepted me as one of the group right away. Bathing the dog was an adventure, heh. It was a short trip, but there are many more memories of her. Here's a few:
Taken from my vacation recap entry (July 2005)
~ We pulled into the boys and girl's place around 7:30 or so and just hung out for the rest of the evening.
crystella had made dinner for everyone cuz she rocks. So we all had dinner and hung out in Crystal's room for a while.
jayra_a_go_go called when he got into town and wanted to know where Crystal was. Trying to get her to think that she was supposed to pick him up. Don't mess with Crystal, the girl gets even... Jason asked if we'd made it and she told him she had no idea where we were. That she hadn't heard from us since earlier that afternoon when we'd called to let her know our plane was delayed. She told him that she didn't have our numbers so she couldn't call us to see what the hold up was. Mind you, it's about 10:30. Kathy lost it and had to leave the room. Seconds later. Kathy's cell rang and she handed it to Crystal. MUHAHAHAHA. Needless to say, Jason hung up on her.
~We walked towards the Alamo and decided to stop at Pat O'Brien's for some Hurricanes. Not only did we have Hurricanes (9 between 4 of us in about 2 hours), but also some Cajun Shrimp, Alligator bites and some Biengets. All very yummy and I wasn't sure I was going to like the Alligator bites. Our waiter, Red, was a hoot. We were hitting on Red for Crystal. Nice friends, huh? We took lots of silly pictures, Jason got himself caught on his chair, Crystal got beaded by Red, we made up and played our own ice game. People all around us were very amused at our antics and the folks sitting next to us made sure that no one was driving and then told us to have a good time. No one was driving, Jason had called Steph and Mari earlier in the evening to make sure they would come and pick us up. So all was good.
We headed over to the River Center around 8:30 to meet up with the girls. Crystal was "dizzy" (her lingo for drunk) and had to hit up the potty several times. She almost drove herself over some steps that lead down to the river. Poor dizzy drunk girl. Jason bought Kathy and I some Starbucks and we all hung out there for a little while. About 9:30 or so, we headed for home.
Those are probably two of the best memories I have of her. I enjoyed getting to know this wacky, crazy, full of life girl who was obsessed with anything Lemon scented. The girl LOVED her some Pine Sol. I'm not kidding. She took me in like I was part of the "family", no questions asked. That meant alot to me and I'll forever be thankful that I was able to experience the joy she brought to so many others.
Sleep well, Crystal. We love you.

Getting eaten by a Lorry at the San Antonio Zoo
Not amused at my constant picture taking... LOL. I saw this face quite often.
At La Villita in one of the shops. I love this picture.
Getting ready to try some of Kathy's crawfish.
She was very afraid...
