I feel better about the tutoring thing now...knowing that im not the only one confused...
my SI teacher and i talked about me doing tutoring and she said that she thot it was a great idea cuz they needed more tutors. After hearing from my students, it seemed like the really did need more and i decided to offer to tutor so i could help them more. i went to the office and the guy brought up the tutors for 102 and was like we have enough tutors blah blah blah. and i told him that my students had said that there werent enough and he was like you mean 3 hours a week isnt enough for them in SI? i told him that some didnt come all 3 days and yes, some did need more help than that and he just looked at me annoyed. He told me that they didnt want SI and tutoring going hand in hand and that if i wanted to do another class (he got excited at this) that i was more than welcome.
well....i went to talk to my SI teacher and she was like "THEY TURNED YOU AWAY!?!?" i told her that he said that there were plenty of tutors and that they didnt need nemore and she just looked pissed. when i told her that he thot that 3 hours in SI was all the students needed, i thot her eyes were going to pop out she was so alarmed. She said that she understood his argument that they want students going to SI over one on one tutoring but that his other arguments were "suspicious" and that she was going to talk to some people...
:D i feel bad for them! shes a nice woman...but she does have a cold side. Oh well, maybe this means that i will actually get to help my students. i just think that if i can have more time with them they can do better.
