My aunt used to work for a non-profit called Eldercraftsmen, where they held classes for people who did arts and crafts in senior centers to learn new stuff and take back to the centers. I taught a class for them on Temari balls, so she used to send me the brochures on what else they were offering.
One of the classes was on making either rugs or shopping bags out of the plastic bags. I was not able to get to the class to see how it was done, but from that description and my aunt mentioning they were cut into a long strip, i experimented and tried things out.
I was not happy with how i could not get them flat enough for a rug, they curved too much on me. so i figured that since they were curving, why not make something that curves, and that lead me to making baskets.
I started 14 years ago just using the bags the newspaper came in, decided i don't really like working with that type of plastic that much and moved on to the grocery bags. Most of the ones i did that long ago are gone. I only have then ones i have done in the last 8 years if i had not given them away.
And last time i actually made any baskets in plastic was over 3 years ago.
Oh and this was well before I was on line or any of the current tutorials were written
