Ecology Survey

Here's a survey I'm conducting in my Field Ecology class. Feel free to fill it out. I'm instructed to survey ten people, and I thought it'd be nice to get an outside perspective on things. Since some of you are out of state/out of country, I'd really like to hear from you ( Read more... )

i know the feeling of having to do this sort of thing... xkatelynnx November 18 2005, 06:32:31 UTC
1. Do you recycle paper? Glass? Plastic? Aluminum?
yes to all four.

2. When you go to the grocery store do you ask for paper or plastic, or do you bring your own reusable bags? What do you do with the paper and plastic bags after they are emptied?
if it's just me, plastic.
if i'm with my mom she brings reusable bags.
i use the paper bags as garbage bags & i use them when i need to carry stuff for school.

3. Have you ever taken toxic or hazardous household materials to a neighborhood or community hazardous-waste collection site? If yes, what materials did you take?
personally, i haven't. i don't have hazardous materials.
for paint cans, batteries, and oil, my parents do. so as a household, we do.

4. What do you do with your grass clippings? With your autumn leaves? With your Christmas tree?
grass & leaves we put into the compost & use it as soil for the garden. if we have too much compost, the garbage people take it away (if we put it in clear garbage bags to show that it is leaves & grass).

5. What do you or your service garage do with the used oil from your vehicles when you change your oil?
my dad's a mechanic, so by law he has to have a recylce system. so he keeps it in old oil drums, and then he pays some company to take it away and recycle it. my work also has a service garage, and they do the same thing. they also take other peoples oil and recycle it for free.

6. What do you consider your community's greatest waste-disposal problem to be?
uhhh... laziness is just the biggest problem. people litter and are even just to lazy to put a recyclable item in a garbage can.

7. Are you yourself guilty of too much waste?
i'd say so, especially in regards to water, electricity, gas, and even food.

8. What do you think you waste the most?
water. long showers, letting the water run when i wash my face, waiting for it to get cold...

9. Please list a way you think you could cut down waste.
drive less. take shorter showers. turn lights off when i leave a room.

10. Do you honestly think about how you dispose of things?
generally, no. recycling is just a habit, i don't have to think about it. everything else, i just don't really think about.

11. Has this survey made you realize anything about your waste habits?
i know i waste stuff & that i could be better. i'm just like a lot of other people... lazy.

i hope this has helped in some way. GOOD LUCK!
