ONE BIG FIGHT!

Jul 26, 2007 00:08

In my opinion, that was one of the best Ateneo-La Salle games I have ever witnessed. Right alongside Game 1 of UAAP FInals 2002, the one with Fonacier's blocks. Right alongside their win in the elimination round of the same year, the one where they gave the Archers a 13-1 standing.

Should have cut Prev Med.

Basta, palaging in favor of La Salle. Hay, no surprise there.

Shet, 30 ALL! Ang saya namaaaaaan!

So there I was, in my startling white UE uniform, cheering for Ateneo like a true-blue fanatic. I never did that much crazy all-out cheering before, even when  I was still studying in the Ateneo.

Haha! (We HATE Maierhofer! Haha!)

Now these are just some of the moments I won't forget about this game:

The moments before the Ateneans fired a particularly demoralizing taunt fat the Lasallites, when their halftime cheer was ending.  The hushed murmuring of Ateneans around me, which turned into a weak chant until it escalated into a thunderous one: "SUSPENDED! SUSPENDED! SUSPENDED!"

Jai Reyes making his 3-point shots. Jai Reyes charging to the hoop and doing floaters.

Kirk Long doing an UNBELIEVABLE behind-the-back move.

Me taunting the La Salle crowd by making the Loser-sign as we kept on answering their every cheer with "SUSPENDED!" (This was during a timeout. We were staying quite near the La Salle crowd. I'm pretty sure a LOT of the Lasallites sitting near us saw me, as I was standing in the aisle while most of the Ateneans were seated. Since I was wearing my UE uniform, I think I stand out. Grabe. Kadire. Pero ok lang, masaya pa rin!)

Ford Arao making a shot when no one else would attempt to, tying the game at 67 and sending it to Overtime.

La Salle crowd doing another of their oh-so-baduy waves across their side of the coliseum, during the timeout before Overtime. Ateneans mocking them by spreading the wave onto our side as well. The whole timeout was spent with that ridiculous wave going from one school to another, with both sides laughing about it.

A mom in front of me composing text messages every break the game has. "2 points na ulit", "tie na naman", etc. Reminded me of how everyone else I know who takes this game seriously were texting each other with updates and comments as well.

Kirk Long making that crucial 2-pointer.

Chris Tiu making that BIG 3-point shot, to raise the lead to 4 in Overtime.

The moment the buzzer rang for the last time in this game, ending it at 80-77, Ateneo. How it felt like in that moment, every Atenean in Araneta was screaming in their head, "Nanalo kami!!!! Natalo namin La Salle!!!!"

The Ateneo players cheering for joy and congratulating each other on court, as if they won a Finals game. Jai Reyes doing some wacky skipping across the court in celebration.

Singing the alma mater.

Singing the alma mater.

Singing the alma mater after such a gratifying win.

*Sigh* Ateneo won. I was so happy. So happy, I even treated Jords' friend, Lim, the one who gave me the ticket. (Apparently, he traded in two Lower Box tickets for 4 Upper Box A tickets just so Jords and Ricalde could watch too. I say that calls for a reward, and I gave it to him in the form of 3 orders of shark's fin dumplings and a cup of rice. I never saw someone look so happy after being treated to a free meal. Personally, I can't understand why, the dumplings tasted awful.)

Then Jords and I went home and watched a recording of the game with Dads and Kuya Dadan. We always do this after watching a good game live.

And this was definitely a good one.
