When my mom got back from the States last December, she brought me home some fabulous goodies: knee-high boots, 2 dresses, and the usual bags, makeup, and accessories. All at sale prices. She loves those bargains in the US. I also got the usual pasalubong from my relatives there - more bags, more makeup, more toiletries ( I swear, 80% of my bags and makeup are supplied by my relatives abroad) and some pocket money.
Then my mom said she has another balikbayan box that will arrive in January through LBC. There are more pasalubongs awaiting me in it. Whee.
So the box arrived last Friday. No one was opening it as we were all busy. I experienced momentary bliss at the sight of it, but I really wasn't excited at opening it. I was just expecting more Victoria's Secret lotion or something. I already have about 5 of those things lying around here, unopened.
This Sunday afternoon, I woke up really late, and trudged towards my room to finish my damn Epi paper.
Then I saw this pink Victoria's Secret bag on my bed. So. They finally opened it.
But wait. That's not lotion. Hell, it's not even undies.
Why is there a thick, hardbound book in the bag? So thick, it filled up half the bag quite snugly.
I approached the bag, puzzled at the sight of that atrocity in the bag. Then I saw two other books beside it.
Oh my God. These are frickin' medical books.
Only one is brand-new, but the other two that apparently came from my Tita Loida's collection looked like it was never used. (FYI: This Tita Loida of mine is said to be my genetic and phenotypic copy, according to every Vitan aunt/uncle and their friends. I have her voice, her hands, her face, her love for sweets, her taray factor, but most importantly, I have her butt. Even her walk, I have it. To top it all off, she's the only doctor in the Vitan family. And guess where she went to medical school? God, maybe I should have been named Loida Vitan II.)
Now, there were also a few clothes in the bag. But I was most thankful about the books. They are incredibly useful! The other stuff that came with it don't even matter!
So after all this, my point is that I have discovered another change in me since I became a medical student. I now prefer receiving medical books than clothes. Freak-ass, I never thought that would be possible.
But I think this has a case-to-case basis. Because if you make me choose between the boots and the medical books, I'm definitely going with the boots. UE has a frickin' library, afterall (no matter how lousy).
