WHO: Donna noblecompanion and Luke bane-archetype
WHAT: DoctorDonna's new companion!
WHEN: 10 August 2008, 1963
WHERE: Bannerman Road, Tardis
WHY: It's a begining
WITH: Adorable Lukeness, Talk of Ages, and DoctorDonna in DoctorDenial.

Donna parked the TARDIS near 13 Bannerman road in Ealing, waiting outside it as she didn't particularly want to run into Sarah Jane. It had been a good six or seven months since she'd last been on Earth, having traveled with Ianto all that time, along with Jenny and Caan. Her eyes looked a bit older and distant, but otherwise she was much the same. She leaned against the door with a grin, waiting for her next companion to show up.

Luke arrived right on schedule, a duffle slung over his shoulder. He smiled when he met her, but then looked a little puzzled.

"Luke!" Donna beamed, tugging him into a hug. "Pleasure to finally meet you in person." She then noted his confusion and tilted her head a bit. "Something the matter?"

"How long has it been since you said I could come with you, Miss Donna?" Luke asked after returning the hug.

"Just Donna, pet, or DoctorDonna, whichever you prefer," Donna replied, ruffling his hair. She frowned a bit then, calculating. "For me? Six or seven months, give or take. Bit difficult to tell, wot with the traveling and different planets and such. Why d'you ask?"

Luke shook his head. "It's not important. I'm sure you've been all sorts of places?"

"'Course it's important if you asked," Donna pointed out, before shrugging. "Suppose we did, yeah," she replied, smiling. "When would you like to go? I figure it's best to keep you on Earth at first, but past, future, anywhen works for me," she continued, opening the door to the TARDIS. "Now come on, don't just stand there, we've got places to be."

"Anywhen at all?" Luke asked, bounding into the Tardis, taking a brief look around, then moving to peer at the controls, his bag forgotten on the floor beside him.

"Anywhen at all," Donna chirped, slinging his bag over her shoulder. "Come on, you can look at those in a minute, let me show you your room first," she chuckled.

It looked like the decision to be led to his room was a very difficult one to make, despite she said he could look at the controls again shortly. The moment they went further into the TARDIS however, he was back to bouncing, trying to see everything all at once, his mind cataloguing it all.

Donna laughed, watching him fondly. She was glad there was someone there to travel with her after Ianto. Not that she didn't have Jenny and Caan, but...with Ianto and Luke she could pretend that everything was alright. "In here," she smiled, gesturing to a room nearby that she remembered as belonging to Sarah Jane once upon a time. "This room was your mother's."

"Really?" Luke asked, looking around.

"Really," she replied, nodding. "Make yourself at home. We can explore a bit more of the TARDIS if you'd like before heading off," she suggested thoughtfully. "Maybe even sneak a peak in one of the Lord President's tinker rooms."

Luke brightened. "A tinker room?" he asked. "And you'll let me see it? Only I got Owen and Captain Jack in trouble once for fixing something they found - and I don't want anyone getting into trouble."

"You won't get in trouble, I promise," Donna reassured him, tugging him out of the room. "Besides, he's not here, anyway," she murmured, before shaking her head. "Come on, this way!"

Luke followed, watching her with a saddish look in his eyes, quickly making it go away before she saw it. He hoped the Doctor came to his senses, what little sense he had (as his Mum would say) soon.

"In here," Donna chirped, leading him into another room, completely oblivious to his thoughts. "He's got all sorts of things in here that need fixing. I've been spending quite a bit of time here myself, it's relaxing, not that I need to relax, mind you, just peachy here. Feel free to play with wot you like, just be careful, and back away quick-like if anything explodes," she rambled.

Luke looked 'round the place. "I think... I think that heaven must be like a Time Lord's Tinker Room," he finally said. He looked up at her, "Did I say that right?"

"Wot, tinker room?" Donna asked, blinking. "Or the heaven bit?"

Luke nodded.

"Yes which? The whole bit? I wouldn't know, if you think that's wot heaven must be like than it's right for you," she replied, shrugging.

"May I come here if nothing's going on?" he asked.

"'Course you can," Donna replied fondly. "You can wander anywhere you like, just give me a shout if you get lost and I'll come running. Jenny and Caan are around here somewhere too...how old are you again?" she asked, looking at him.

"Which answer do you want?"

"Both, please! It's the same sort of thing with Jenny, she's only been around for a few months but she was born about 20 or so? Not sure exactly. You two would get along I think," she explained.

Luke smiled. "Well, That would make my answers 'nearly fifteen' and 'nearly one', respectively," he replied honestly.

Donna beamed. "Well you're both older and younger than her then," she chuckled. "Fantastic. Maybe you can give me some advice, bit difficult raising a kid who's two ages at once. Not that I mind, I'm just glad to have one again, and one that's real at that," she added thoughtfully. It would be her not-real son's not-real birthday soon...except it wouldn't, because it wasn't real. "Wanna play around in here a bit or see the controls?"

"I'm not sure I could," Luke said, easily keeping up, "I'm still learning how things like social interaction work." He made no comment on the real/not real bit. Maybe he and Jenny - heck, even Caan, could make that a little better. "I'd like to see the controls, if I may?"

"Not sure I'm the best person to be teaching you about social interaction," Donna pointed out. "But you'll learn when we travel. Follow me then, back to the controls we go. Oh! And before I forget, I hope you like running, because there's going to be a lot of it," she grinned.

"I was born running," he said truthfully.

"Perfect then," Donna laughed, before dashing off to the control room, expecting Luke to keep up. "If you're hungry the galley is that way," she told him on the way, pointing in the general direction on the way. "I'm sure I've still got something edible in there, but if I don't we'll make a quick grocery stop."

Luke grinned, keeping up easily. It would be impolite to run ahead, wouldn't it?

"Right! Controls. Easiest way to learn how to fly this thing is to watch someone fly it," Donna explained. "So pick a time, any time, and I'll give you a demonstration."

"Erhm..." Luke pulled a year out of the air. "Twenty-Twelve?"

Donna gave him a look. "Oh pick something a bit longer than that, 2012 isn't impressive at all."

"But that's the next Olympics," Luke said thoughtfully. "What about Nineteen sixty-three?"

"We'll go to 2012 next if you'd really like, but for now 1963 it is!" Donna replied, starting the control sequence with fluid movements, like she could do it in her sleep.

Luke stood back, watching every flick of switch, spin of dial, tap of buttons, storing away the information.

"Alright Luke, hang on!" she instructed him, before the TARDIS materialized in 1963 Brighton. "Care to take a peek outside?" she asked, grinning again.

Luke nodded and grinned, and did just that.
