Dear Reader,
Yes, I'm still alive but I've kind of grown out of blogging. I used to love it but I no longer have the motivation to update it. For some reason, I have that feeling to update right now and thankfully it's after a great day so I can remember it later.
Today was awesome! After Jen and Shawna dragged me out of bed, we decided that we'd still head up, so after a taco bell run, gas station stop, and a trip to Jen's grandparent's house to pick up a grill, we were on our way. We found a spot with Paul and Rose's side of the family and we caught up for a bit while I blew up our stuff, including a queen size air matress. The matress was a hit, and the people right next to us looked with curious eyes, finally asking if they could 'try it'.
For the next two hours, we were hanging out with them trying to stand on it, getting pushed and thrown off, and being floated along to show off to other folks. The kids were 3 girls and 2 boys, the youngest of whom being 6 and the oldest 15. Their parents just hung out under a tree far from the beach while Jen and I entertained them (and ourselves). The oldest girl suggested that we bind a few more mattresses together and put a big tent on it so we can have a cheap houseboat. We'll need to try it sometime just to say that we did that.
Once they left for dinner, I made brats in the barbecue and fed them to everyone, including Shawna's friends that arrived a little later. We all hung out and enjoyed the sunset while I mingled with family and went in the water. Being out there with the sun setting was the most relaxing thing I've done in a long time, even after the Minnesota trip that we just did (because that was nothing but being busy seeing as many people as possible in the space of five days). Once it got dark, we roasted marshmallows with Katie and Angela, then watched the fireworks show. It lasted almost 30 minutes and included quite a few patriotic tunes. Watching the fireworks reflect off the water which was quietly lapping at the shore made me realize how much I love this area. It's hard to believe that just a few days ago, a huge fire blackened the sky and made everyone wonder if they'll wake up the next day to the same beautiful lake. Sure enough, it was just the same as we all remember it, and the ridge that the fire burnt was not that bad looking from afar.
That's it, as you can tell it's late and we just got back after all the traffic. I'll be up again on Saturday or Sunday, anyone interested in joining?
