it was election day. there was already so much cray cray in the air. people all throughout the day were checking the poll stats on the computers.
that day i was talking to a customer about computers and phones and then his wife comes in. i thought he had questions, but no. she had questions. lots of questions about the phones, the mp3 players, the computers and about me.
first she asked what my name was.
allison.
then she asked what my ethnicity was.
filipino.
then she asked if i understood the language.
yes.
immediately she asked if i spoke the language.
yes. yes i do.
then she asked if i was born and raised in america.
yes.
she was going to ask another question but then her husband interrupted her and asked her why she was asking me so many questions.
she looked me in the eyes, then turned to her husband and said "because i'm proud of her."
then she looked at me again as she explained to her husband that she was proud of me because i was Filipino and that i knew 'so much about technology' as she put it.
as she left she told me "maraming, maraming salamat!"
to which i replied "walang ano man, po!"
that made my day. it happened earlier on in the day. before the results came flooding in. before i learned that prop 8 had passed. crazy how you can go from up to down in a matter of moments. luckily, i found comfort at the abbey that night. i wasn't going to go out, but my co-worker convinced me to.
she's straight but all night she was being asked if she was family. her reply was plain and simple : one love.
one love indeed. as it should be.
