Furloughs - a blessing in disguise?

Furloughs are almost here. Next week maybe?

Yesterday morning I was opening the safe room door and a thought occurred. I've spent way too much time at work. I'm sure some of my co-workers would disagree, but hear me out. I got my first job here in Sept 95 as a Photodup student. My desk was on the other side of the room from where I am now. In the last almost 14 years, I have seen this room grow and change, but its still the same room. For someone who likes to keep moving (I've live in 11 different places since I've started working here), 14 years in the same room is almost too much.

Most of my stress comes from work. Case in point, figuring out how to live on 10% less pay when I just bought a car was stressful. Being here less and being at home will, I hope, reduce my stress.

Having less money and more time at home could potentially turn me into a homebody. Its something that I've tried to do in the past, but I get bored. I need to try to find things to occupy my time - homework, cleaning, all the crafts I have half-finished, exercising, video games, etc. For me, productivity = less stress.

I am still waiting to hear the exact details of the furlough plan. What I gather so far is that the president of the University will set 16 days throughout the year, and I will have 8 to choose myself. 4 of the 16 are additional days around Christmas, which will extend my time off to a full 2 weeks (Yay!). I have yet to hear if we will be closed on those designated furlough days. If we are not closed, then I will be working and will have to take my furlough day another day in that week (Tuesdays!). I don't know how its going to work for my first furlough day, which is rumored to be next Friday.

So this time next year we will see if I am less stressed or if I am in a mental institution.
