What's up with those Keira Knightley films? Does she choose her roles by the amount of knitwear she's going to wear? First we had
The Edge of Love which is still my favourite film inspiration in terms of clothing and knitwear, and last night I finally watched Never let me go (mostly because of
Carey Mulligan, I am so transparent...).
I didn't expect much and then I couldn't stop watching, not because the storyline was so good - because the costumes were so good!
I found
this article about costume designer Rachael Flemming:
„(...) used a lot of second-hand clothing (...) They also asked a variety of British boarding schools to send them old uniforms, from which they forged the mismatched hodgepodge of the Hailsham outfits.“
Well, capping this was exhausting, believe me.
The cardigan I liked most was Kathy's childhood cardigan. As I was watching this, I knitted a swatch of
this grey tweed yarn - just exactly like hers! So how could I not plan on doing this one now?
I was wondering about the pattern: Is this just stockinette stitch plus one row of knitting/purling or something else?
I also liked Ruth's raglan uniform jumper! So simple, so good. This is the kind of piece I would wear everyday.
As you can see, everybody in this school is wearing wooly sweaters:
ev-ery-one. look! a peter pan collar cardigan!
even the teachers:
this one is interesting, notice the cuffs and...
...the back:
kathy's first cardigan as a grown-up:
(she even has woolen things in her secret box.)
kathy is getting older now, and her style also changes:
the green one is probably my favourite of tommy's jumpers:
