Initially I thought bailing out the auto industry probably wasn't a bad idea do to the overall impact it would have on country. However, based on the recent statements from GM, I think they should fry.
They want more money to cut jobs. They want to phase out the Saturn line. The Saturn line was very profitable for them, and has a great fuel economy. Saturn was doing great until it was reabsorbed into GM. Then they started to produce luxury, boxster and SUV vehicles, all of whice were outside the original vision of Saturn. Also, keep in mind Saturns are built with the some of the same safety features as Mecedes.
Then they followed up by stating it appears they are going to let Saab go under, which is yet another very safe brand of vehicles with high fuel economy. I am beginning to see a trend here.
Plus you have the Unions wanting more benefits, more wages, and more compensation...no offense but fuck them. They need to take a hit for the team too.
As much as it may cause some chaos, GM's business decisions are piss poor, and they need to be purged from the landscape. Something or someone else will take their place. They made bad business decisions, and I don't want to pay for it anymore.
My two cents.
