Long, Boring (Uneventful... Mostly) Drive

Jan 05, 2011 23:58

Pat and I made it to Vermont! We may have gone over the GW Bridge, JUST to have to turn around and cross over the Tappan Zee Bridge to get OUT of NYC and back on course (*grumble... $$$$... grumble*), but it was a 100% on-schedule 8 hour drive. We left KoP at 3pm almost exactly and made it up to Colchester by about quarter to 11. No traffic. No (real) cockups. AMAZING backroads (ie. NOT A SOUL on them), and here we are safe and sound. Not much else happened today, but I'm just so happy to report that I don't want to keel over and die after our drive. This is a tough schlep, let me tell you. Today it was as painless as I could have ever asked for. I guess it was karma's repayment for having to drive home in the Day-After-Christmas blizzard on the NJ Turnpike. *shudders*

But Mom and Bill stayed up for us, and gave us a grand welcome. :-)
Bill had knee surgery at the beginning of December and is making uncanny progress in his recovery. He's on his feet and off his crutches already. Surprising us again just like he did this past summer when he recovered so remarkably quickly from his bike accident.

Excited to have a day with Mom and Bill and Pat tomorrow before the little bro comes to visit. But he'll be here tomorrow evening, and then "Christmas" will be on Friday, leaving us Saturday and Sunday to socialize and all.  Yay!

Erin's taking care of Marley, and having a little independence in our apartment, so that's cool for everyone. Never had a housesitter before when I went away. LOL. Not really, anyway.

Ooh! Also, I forgot Mom has an elliptical machine here (!)... So... Bonus! I'll get a little headstart on my new exercise plan. YEAH.

Also also, I need to add one thing to my resolutions for 2011. I seriously need to start being a little... no, let's be realistic here... a LOT more positive in my speech. I complain a LOT. But even the stuff I'm saying that's totally positive in intent or not complainy or mad at all is still coming out of my mouth in harsh tones and/or negative language. For example: When someone says something that is a harmless joke at my expense (Dad, Matt, Pat...)... My smiling response does NOT need to be, "Shut up, I hate you." *chagrin* ... 'Nuff said.

But that's it for today! Wanted to sneak in a little lj before the witching hour, so I don't miss a day. Woot!
