Ah... My poor couch-bed. I believe I made a post about it about a year ago last month...
Well, at this point, Marley has scratched the left armrest to stuffing, and she's working on the right side now.
The whole couch is a gross mess of nasty old upholstry, and has holes in the cushions...
Time to go fabric shopping.
I'm going to cover the cushions (Project #1), and then attempt to cover the armrests/sides and back of the couch with the same fabric (Project #2). It won't look profesisonal, but it will look BETTER.
Now, in order to make this a successful series of projects, I need to train Marley to scratch SOMETHING ELSE in the house... Preferrably not the coffee table or Jenn's bed (which I have finally decided to turn into my second COUCH, as long as it actually FITS in the living room of the apartment with the other couch--I have enough pillows to cover the thing and make it cute & comfy as a couch).
So, I'll look for something suitable for her to scratch on while Aimee and I are at Target tonight, or maybe take a pit stop at Pet Smart at some point soon... But I need to find her something she'll use, so that I can fix/save my furniture. She hasn't tried to scratch on my new bed (she's content just to shed all over my comforter at the moment)... So that's good.
I have a veritable VAT of catnip dating back to when we first found her, so I'm hopeful that I can use that to help train her... But the weird scratch-cone that Rory bought her back in the day was UNTOUCHED, even with catnip DUMPED on it. I've heard that the texture of Sisal Fabric/Rope is good for kitties. I hope she'll like it. I can get her a good sturdy, tall one...
Is this a hopeless fight? Marley is stubborn. I know this. I just HOPE I can teach her to scratch something else. Do those "Stay-off-my-sofa" pet spray thingies actually work in situations like this? Are they even generally SAFE for said pets? I feel like Rory and I tried that back in the day, and it didn't work worth a damn.
I am open to suggestions.
But all of that is my mission as I have chosen to accept it...
Now... to choose an upholstry color... (!)
