idyllic winter in downtown denver

we made our daughter ecstatic by buying her a sofa-ish futon and a beautiful mission style sofa table for her apartment for xmas. They were delivered this afternoon just hours before the streets again became a mess as the current week's storm settled in.

We went to this great art museum on the corner -- two buildings away. Just chock full of things. Fascinatin' paintings by Vance Kirkland. I think I could make some terrifc abstract quilts patterned after some of his later work.

Then suddenly, we went off tivo for 5 minutes and found the local news channel talking about what a problem it was for people to find a place for their car to get it off the snow routes. Guess what? This afternoon E parked it around the block on one of them!!! Panic. We quick ran out. I stood guard over a small spot on her block while she got the car. We spruced up the spot with the brand new snow shovel we got her, and relaxed.

Then, went to the corner store stocked up -- cookies, canned soup, and playing cards. What luxury to have a store so close! Makes me wish I lived in a real city.

It's an awfully quiet week, since the weather is so awful, but it's a treat to be part of a real winter snow storm.

So I guess the real test will be whether we can get to the restaurant where our reservations are tommorrow -- I think we can walk there, but will they be open?
