Halloween

Last night we went to my colleague Shawn's annual Halloween party. Christian went as a traditional Mixtecan, while I had won a banana costume in a Del Monte sweepstakes, so I went as that. It was fun talking to everybody. I haven't been in the department much since getting back from Austria, so this actually felt like my chance to catch up on everything. Turns out Steve and his wife have sold their house and are moving into an apartment a block away from us in New Haven.

It also was a chance for me to unwind after a busy week. I'm starting to get all these emails about my courses for next semester (aaaah! no! that's still two months away!). I also feel like since I got back from Austria, I still haven't fallen back into a typical domestic rhythm. I was in Boston for four days to pick up Carmen, then Christian was home for only three days before going up to Mohegan Sun for his Algonquian conference. Then the trip to NYC for Oktoberfest. Nothing's been quiet.

This week, however, will be different. I'll go into work a couple times, but otherwise, the plan is to finally play some videogames. I get the urge every half year or so to play Civilization for a week straight -- otherwise I don't play. But that urge has not been satisfied in over a year! I think I managed to squeeze in a week of play in summer 2013, between travel and all the startup at Fairfield. I didn't get a chance this winter between family and conference travel and preparing for the new semester. And then the spring semester ended, I went to Cabo, then CANT, and then the REU started. I told myself, ok, I'll relax in August, but then we went to Buffalo for a week, then Christian's sister visited us for a week, and suddenly I had to start preparing for my two-month trip to Europe. So now that's all past and I'm going to finally satisfy this itch, dammit.
