Beeping

On my way to work today, I unexpectedly got a call from the math secretary. She has NEVER called my personal number, so I was freaked out by that already. But then she starts talking: "Paul? There's this horribly annoying, loud, repetitive beeping coming from your office. It's been going on for the last 15 minutes. I was wondering if I could go into your office and turn off whatever's doing it because I can't concentrate at all."

Beeping??? From my office? As far as I know, there were only three things in my office that could possibly beep: the new computer, the old computer, or the telephone. I really, really hoped it wasn't the former. Since I was already most of the way to campus, I told her to hold off until I got there. But my anxiety flared when I got stuck in traffic just a couple miles from my exit. Ugh. When I finally got in, I came to my office door and could hear the beeping from outside. Turns out, that beeping was.... the old computer. Whew! But it was all black and not responding to keyboard or mouse, so I had to restart it manually using the power button. I read online that that type of beeping means there's problems with the RAM, so I'm glad that I will be giving that computer back to ITS soon. What a relief though that it wasn't an issue with my new computer.
