Italy's fucked judicial system

Oct 27, 2012 19:35

For those of you that missed it, Italy's judicial system made one of the most ludicrous rulings I have read in a long time.

Italy convicts 7 scientists for failing to warn about earthquake. They face 6 year prison terms.

This, combined with that ruling a year ago that crucifixes hanging on the front of classrooms in public schools was NOT a state endorsement of religion, just points to a country that's maybe even a tad more warped than parts of the US. Thankfully, the European Court of Human Rights overturned the crucifix ruling (but Italy is fighting it). Hopefully the EU can step in again and protect these scientists' rights from the clueless judge sitting on the bench.
