department potluck
Yesterday evening was the department potluck at the house of the department chair. We got to meet spouses, and everyone got to meet Christian. We had good conversations with lots of people and I even got a math conversation going with the department's group/number theorist. We brought this squid and tomato sauce with penne dish that I had made while Christian was away. I thought it was yummy, but scaling it up proved difficult and I ended up making too much pasta so you couldn't taste enough of the sauce. It was still well-received. Ours was the only non-vegetarian dish, although apparently some of the vegetarian-y people do eat seafood, so almost everyone could eat it. There's less vegetarians in the department than I thought and I don't think there's any vegans. I guess no one will mind me curing ham in my office this winter...
