he's off to Mexico
I drove Christian to the airport this morning. It's going to be a lonely four weeks in New Haven while he's gone. :-(
After Christian submitted his abstract last night at 9:30, we had a few relaxed hours together. We watched a good movie, The Kids Are All Right*, that got me feeling both sad that he's going but happy about how strong our love is. Some of the parallels in the movie to our lives were too keen (in terms of what was said, not in terms of what happens).
It felt kinda amazing to watch a movie together. We hadn't had any time to do so since Mischa's on July 16, and the previous time we saw a movie together (other than on an airplane) was around June 18. It struck us just how busy we've been lately with moving and academic deadlines. There's hardly been any time to relax the last three months-- our four days in Berkeley in mid July being a recent and welcome exception.
