meeting with Tuna

Jun 03, 2011 18:27

Had one of my last meetings with Tuna today. We decided to plan out our paper a little and then we sat and talked about the open problem that we had made progress on but not yet solved. I noticed one small observation and then an hour later I was able to prove our result for the nilpotent class 2 case. Two hours later, I tried a technique I had tried several times before but I thought of new variables to plug in. Voila, the general reduction we were looking for popped out. Now we have good control over the second centers (which explains why the nilpotent class 2 case could fall out so easily). I'm happy, but not yet very optimistic since the second centers are very closely related to centralizers, while the higher centers are not, so controlling them will be much more difficult. I basically have a week to push things through.

In other news, Emily is here. We had a great dinner. Tomorrow we're gonna go sightseeing.
