Party

Christian's birthday was earlier this week, so we decided to have a party tonight, the first in our new apartment since moving in ::tilts head in shame:: in March. A bunch of our friends came and Christian made shakshuka (I don't know how to spell it), an Israeli dish with feta, tomatoes and hot peppers. It was really popular. Upon Christian's request, I made my Polish cheesecake, bu tthis is the first time I attempted making it with French cheese. The previous time I had actually brought back a kilo of twaróg with me from Poland to make it. It came out pretty well using high quality fromage blanc from our cheesewoman at the market, but we had to let it sit for a full day to drain out all the liquid from it (it sits in its own liquid to keep it fresh for instant consumption). About 30% of it turned out to be water, so we were happy to have erred on the side of buying more. I also used ladyfingers as the crust since I can't find graham crackers in France. They were quite good, but took up more space in the baking pan than I'm used to, so the batter just fit into the pan. Of course, after 10 minutes of baking, it no longer fit in the pan and began overflowing all over the oven... Luckily I noticed and managed to salvage things before everything got suffocated in smoke. The cake turned out quite tasty; tomorrow we're going to give the cheeselady a piece so she can see what came from her recommendation.

Today also happens to be the 6 year anniversary of the day we met. They've been a very happy six years :-)
