In New Jersey

Christian and I arrived in New Jersey this evening. The drive down was pleasant and sunny. We had printed out directions from Google Maps, but then Christians' mother lent us her GPS, so we began following that. Well, for some reason it wouldn't run off the car's battery through the cigarette lighter and we didn't realize this until it died on us in the middle of the trip. Then, in Binghamton, we knew we had to get on the highway going south to Scranton, but somehow we managed to stay on 17/I-86 and managed to convince ourselves that all was right for at least an hour. At least the route was easily rectifiable with little lost time; the only difference being an entrance into NJ from the north instead of the west.

I have to say that at this point my experiences with GPS have all been mildly to excessively annoying. Half the time it's not the GPS screwing up but rather people placing their faith in it blindly and wholeheartedly. In this case it was us who were foiled by this faith, but in the past I've had people overrule my own directions in favor of the GPS, despite me being a local to the area and knowing the streets like the back of my hand! Half the time the GPS screws up in a way that a local would have avoided, and even when it gets the route right, it's still rude to shush someone because the GPS is talking. Anyway, I'm glad to be somewhere with regular internet access again. Oh, and my family, I'm glad to be around them too. :-P
