Stolen laptops

So while I was getting my ticket straightened out with customer service, the Honolulu lady started talking with a girl in line. This girl's laptop had just been stolen. How? She was going through security and had taken out her laptop, placed it in a tray and sent it through the X-ray machine with the rest of her stuff. Then there was a backup at the walk-through X-ray machine, so she couldn't immediately go through to re-collect her belongings. She saw a man pick up her laptop and start to walk away. She yelled out that the guy was stealing her laptop but the TSA people did nothing and she couldn't run after the guy because they wouldn't let her through the X-ray machine. The guy walked away scot-free.

Hearing that happen makes me much more hesitant about sending my laptop through security. What good is this security if thefts are happening right under their noses?

crime, homeland security
