Wow... So, Torture is finally legal. And I think I speak for us all when I say, Finally! I already feel safer. How was our president expected to fight a war on terror, when he can't even torture innocent civilians. Here's how it's supposed to work. Our troops "Capture" an Iraqi civilian. We ask him where the Al-Quida is, and since he doesn't know.. he can't tell us. See... it used to end there, but now with torture on our side we add a whole new element to the situation. Now when that civilian tells us he doesn't know where Osama is we starve him, and whip him. Maybe, if were feeling really "Jesusy" we can tie him to a cross. Then he'll give us all the answers we want. I've watched Lost.. I know how torture works.. People will tell you anything if you start ripping fingernails off. They might not know where Saddam hid all his WMD's but after a couple weeks of no food and being chained to a wall, they'll start taking some educated guesses. Maybe they'll get lucky and actually be right.. who knows? But to think torture can only be used in the war on terror is blinding yourself to tortures true potential.
The war on drugs is almost important as the war on terror.. if not more so. Think of how torture could be used there. You work for the D.E.A. you see a kid smoking a J. He had to get that weed from somewhere, but he would rather face jail time then tell you who his dealer is. That used to be a problem... before torture. Now after a couple days of intense abuse that same kid will not only tell you who his dealer is but he'll make a list of anyone he's ever smoked with, and maybe even write down their address. That's the power of torture.
The worst part is, I'm just being ironic. But what I'm saying is probably not that far from what our government thinks.. and that truly scares me.
