i love these women.

let me just say that the le tigre show at the exit/in in nashville was one of the greatest i've ever been to in my life, rivaling my little sing-along with karen o a few years ago. it was fun, fabulous, and fucking AMAZING. they put on the best live show. energetic, funny, pertinent, sincere, raw, emotional, joyous, liberating--all while dancing my ass off. i had great company in the form of the ever-fantastic and endlessly hilarious ambulator, and we both looked and felt hott. in the words of nivea, i looked good, don't hate. it's been a while since i've been to a show that amazing and wonderful and worth every penny i paid for it despite getting inadvertently humped by stinky butches and shoved around by freewheelin fat chicks, for the first time in a long time i really was there strictly for the music, and i enjoyed every moment of their set and was so sad when it ended.

and i'm even more in love with the fabulous kathleen hanna now. she is so brilliant. i want to be her when i grow up.

and yes, that is a megaphone. she's so brilliant and talented and cute and funny. kathleen, please be my friend and hang out sometime, okay? joanna seemed to be a little off-kilter, or maybe she's just like that all the time. she confessed her love of some psychic detective show on courttv to the crowd, though the relevance of that statement to the show is debatable. she bears an astonishing resemblence to christine baranski, minus the cheesy accent and plus a few tattoos.

and j.d. wow. j.d., well, she looks like a dude. a lot like a dude. a dude that many chicks of my general age range would find exceptionally attractive, complete with messy mop top, tough ink, well-placed facial hair, and a bulging adam's apple (as well as trouser bulge that i would have done just as well not to notice). sure had me--and i'm sure a lot of other people--fooled at first too. her rock kicks were bad-ass too.

i just love their dynamic as a band. they work really well together and seem to have a lot of fun with each other onstage and with the crowd too. they played some of my favorite songs--"what's your take on cassavetes?", "hot topic," "mediocrity rules," and "deceptacon"--and some off the new album which were still awesome too. they are definitely one of my favorite bands of all time, hands down.

electrelane were adorably low-key and quintessentially british but still managed to rock out to the max. the guitarist (the lead guitarist, not the one with the long hair) made me want to be a lesbian--she was uber-hott and extremely talented and had the kind of tits i've been dreaming of my whole life. their drummer was a cute indie version of hilary swank in the boys dont' cry vein of strong-jawed transgenderism with exceptionally nice hair. i enjoyed their set a lot, they mixed it up quite a bit and are really talented musicians.

and then there was be your own pet. i'd read about them in nylon and was pretty excited to get to see them, especially since they're from nashville. i would have enjoyed their songs a lot more had they not a)been acting like bratty, spoiled rich kids, b)had songs with terrible, terrible lyrics, and c)been so generally annoying and poseurish, the lead singer trying her hardest to emulate the great miss o but to no success. one thing i can say about them is that they were photogenic, and that makes me almost dislike them a little more. i was more than a little disappointed in their performance. they need to grow up.

but their set was wonderfully short because i'm sure they had a test in school the next day. it felt like they were just showing off for all their friends in the audience. mildy amusing, but obnoxious and pointless too. but they were first, so we all forgot about them by the time electrelane was a two minutes into the first song. it's not all looks and attitude. it's good to know talent still matters sometimes.

but anyway! thursday is rufus wainwright, ben folds, and ben lee in colombus with crystal and i'm hella-excited about that too. i've still got three weeks left of this summer, and i'm going to milk it for all its worth...
