okay, so i'm not going to lie here. this next set of pictures from hiroshima are not as cool as some of the previous sets. hiroshima is, to be perfectly honest, a depressing place, especially if you're an american. but it's an important place, i think. only one u.s. president has visited hiroshima, and that was jimmy carter. i'm pretty sure neither the emperor nor the prime minister of japan has ever visited there either, which says a lot about the kind of associations a place like this has for everyone involved on every side. the 50th anniversary of the bombing is coming up next week, so take a look at



This is the Hiroshima A-Bomb Museum and Peace Memorial Park.















Our hotel was about the most un-japanese thing you could ever imagine. beth squirted me with the automated toilet.







Hiroshima is actually a pretty good-sized city, big enough that our dumbasses managed to get lost in for two hours the first night.






and i learned that shinkansen is really and truly the only way to travel.
