Gimme me Gimme me More Gimme me more..............
So my sleeping schedule gets fucked on the wwkends now cuz I'm doin Rocky at Creative Ministries and thats why I am up sooo early this nippy Monday morning. I perform at midnite get home around 4am and sleep till 2 or 3 in the afternoon Saturday and Sunday. This time it's worth it. Its 6 weekends and 2 are done - so 4 more weekends like this and thats ok by me. Out of all the times I have done Rocky I have to say this is the best. For a couple of reasons; First of all - I wish Creative Ministries (even though I am not hot on the name) was closer to where I live - I love the space. I do enjoy the intamacy of Cap for certain shows but this stage and pit at cm makes me real comfortable.
The staff there is so supportive and the strip of stores there have many things to offer- except a Dunkin Donuts or a Starbucks.
The reason why I dont mind the travel or the sleep schedule thingee is that it is a great ensemble- that makes it for me.
If I am working with great people I could be doin Annie and having a great experience (which has happened).
We know this is Rocky Horror which has been being done for years now and to my eye has gotten sloppier and sloppier and sloppier. Even going into it I was like "oh shit, another Rocky" But then my attitude changed when there was some fresh meat who had never done it or seen it and I got excited. This isn't an easy piece to pull off well- People think , oh I will just put on heavy makeup underware and act slutty- and that is part of it yes- but there has to be really good comic timing to make it work and strong rocklike voices and actors who are not just winking at the audience like "hey aren't we funny and inapproprite" There are some actors in this run who actually get that and it's great to see and work with. Im not saying Rocky is Shakespeare but it does take a certain skill and I am lucky this time around to be playing with like minded actors.
Anysnatch thats my rant on Rocky and if you get a chance do come see it at Creative Ministries in Oakdale evry Fri and Sat nite till Nov 24th at Midnite.
In other news I started a new job 4 weeks ago. I am an air manager at Linbladt Expeditions . We do National Geographic Cruises to Antartica and Egypt and all kinds of cool places. I handle the air portions of peoples voyages- I like it alot. I am in Syosett which is a hop skip and jump from my apartment. People are cool and this will work very nicely for the present. Still toying with what to do as far as going back to school for elementary ed.
Great part about the job is that it now affords me to get some Theatre back in my life- My schedule is now conducive to doing some shows- I MISSS IT SOOO MUCH! But I looked on Debs web recently and nothing jumps out.
I am going to take a class in the city on Monday nights where you bring pieces to work on and it was suggested to me by a Director friend of mine from way back when- If I have chosen not to pursue this professionally I have to find a way to feed the need to do it in other ways.
I am going to start the coffee pot now , make my bed and welcome in the new week to come. Its a spooky week Halloween and all - I hope I get pursued by a serial killer like a Michael Myers- that will make the week exciting and dramatic.
