We've made it all the way down to the Keralan capital - Thiruvanathapuram! (aka Trivandrum). SUmmary of the past week:
Goa - three days in Benaulim. Very touristy, lovely beach. Hassled by shop keepers and peddlars a lot. Many, many complements on our Indian Pujabi outfits (seems most tourists dress like they're in Miama, not India).
Karnataka - three days in the little temple town of Udupi. Opposite of Goa - few people seemed to notice us - very few non-indian tourists. Quite nice. Took a night train from there - not as nice as the first one - lots more people getting on and off. Hardly slept.
Kerala - Indian state I've wanted to visit since I first learned about it in school in 2004. Democratically communist, excellent track record in education (100% literacy), birth rate (dropped faster and more stedily than China with its one child policy) and women's equality. Here we're also looking forward to a trek in the wildlife sanctuary, a night on a houseboat, perhaps another theatre play, another beach and more travelling adventures!
