Hope the party was a blast!lostlittlesoulJune 17 2007, 04:25:57 UTC
I would have loved to come, but I'm still under recovery orders from all the medical people in my life. Plus, I wanted to bring the husband with, but he had to work this weekend. Maybe we can all get together for something later this summer.

Party was good, except that I was fighting a chest cold through the whole thing. Probably picked it up with all th visits I've made to hospitals and nursing homes lately. We'll have to make a point of getting together before the summer is out. As much of a home body as I am, my wife loves to see me get out and actually socialize.

I understand the nursing home/hospital bit. We did the same for the last 3 years of my mother-in-law's life. Not something I want to repeat any time soon. Hm, socialize eh? Well, at the end of July I'll be in Joy's wedding. Depending on what the husband's work schedule looks like, we could get together early in July or sometime in August. Have you ever been to the Bristol Ren Faire? It's just over the boarder to Wisconsin. We've been working it the past few years, but decided on taking this year off. Of course, all our friends have insisted on us coming to visit at least once this summer. Would you be interested in a day outing to the 16th century?

What are prices like? Is is kid friendly? My Wife has a cousin that's getting married sometime in August, we'll have to work around that, but beyond that, late July and August seem to be clear. Of course My Wife keeper of the social calendar has veto power.

Here's a link about the ticket info for this year. http://www.renfair.com/bristol/tickets/advancetix.php I think Bristol is rather kid friendly. There's Kids Kingdom and the fantasticals, plenty of rides and other things to see and do. It can get a bit expensive if you start to do a lot of shopping, but it doesn't have to be. Once you're in the gate, all the shows are free (though the performers do appreciate tips as this is what many of them do for a living). Everyone there is very aware that there are children of all ages wandering around, so any show that's considered more adult usually has a sign or some sort of warning. We've been looking at some of the entertainment news (and the behind the scenes news of who's going to be there when) and we're going to try to get up there either July 14th or the 21st. Once we know the husband's schedule I'll know the date better.
Yeah, I know all about the wife being the keeper of the times. :-)

July 21st is best for us. I was hoping to play Magic on July 14th, as 10th edition is coming out that day, but I can be flexible, if that is the only day available. My wife is worried that she'll be bored though which is odd, considering that I've always marveled at her ability to make friends in 2 micro seconds at even the most mundane gatherings.

Bored? Hm, depends on what she likes to do. I've found that most people have to try to be bored there. They've pretty much got something for everyone. Here's some pictures from last year http://www.wohlershome.net/gallery/v/Renfaire/Bristol/BRF_2006/ Things are supposed to be even more madcap then usual due to it being the 20th anniversary. As for meeting people, we've found that most people are really pretty friendly, and only a few of them bite. :-)

You know, I realize I've been pushing a bit on the faire, and I shouldn't. I just wanted to say, if that doesn't work for you and the family let me know. There are plenty of other things to do in the area and the husband and I are game for pretty much any new type of outing. :-)

Don't woory you're cool. Usually my wife initiates social outings, and I go kicking and screaming. She's probably taken aback a bit by the role reversal, but hell, we haven't met face to face in nearly ten years. If you'd rather meet up for dinner at a restaurant just the four of us, to catch up before planning a day long trip to Wisconsin, I totally understand.
Sorry I haven't responded in a bit.lostlittlesoulJune 29 2007, 22:41:57 UTC
We're still trying to find out what my husband's schedule will look like for the 21st. If he has to work, we're going to go up on the 14th, but we won't know for certain until the week of the 9th. I know it's harder to schedule things when kids are involved, so let me know if that doesn't work for you and we can plan something else. Honestly, there's so much to see and do at the faire (not to mention that we'll also be say hi to friends in almost every section) that it's not so much a 'sit down and chat' but more of a 'come out and have fun with us' sort of thing. You're the one with more demands on your time and money, you have kids. I just have my husband. :-) I just wanted to let you know that I wouldn't be offended if you wanted to do something else. :-)
Maybe we can all get together for something later this summer.
