Spurious Interrupt

Do you ever get on autopilot? Like when you're driving and you get to your destination, but you don't remember driving there at all.

I had the most bizarre experience the other day. The program running in the brain totally got stuck handling a spurious interrupt and it was strange.

You know those sinks that are everywhere now, the ones that you don't have to turn on - they have a motion sensor and you just place your hands under the faucet and the water starts flowing.

Well I went to the bathroom and after taking care of business stopped to wash my hands. At some point I pop out of auto pilot, the processor finally jumps out of the "wait for water subroutine" and I realize that I am standing there with my hands under the faucet waiting for water to come out, but it is a faucet that must be turned on. The scary thing is that I have no idea how long I was standing there! Was it 1/2 a second, or 30 seconds? I don't know.

Then I thought to myself, how much time in my life have I lost like that and I don't even realize it - I mean what if I didn't even notice? I could have been standing there for 30 seconds and not noticed.
