Oma's last Saying

Jul 13, 2007 12:09

I wrote once before about how my Oma always talked in colloquialisms and proverbs. I thought I would share with everyone the last words she said to me before she died, which fittingly enough was a proverb.

She was sleeping a lot in the hospice. She woke up and I asked her "what were you dreaming?" and she said to me "Träume sind Schäume, erwache und lache". A loose English translation "Dreams are Foam( as in ethereal(seafoam or bubbles) or lies ), awake and laugh(I took this to mean revel in the 'real' world)"

Those were her last words to me and I think it is totally fitting that her last words were a rhyming proverb about the dream space she was in right before death.
