fun trip upstate

wrenn and I spent a couple of days visiting our friend Carol in Ticonderoga, New York, and it was absolutely lovely. Carol has a small house right on Lake George -- which is clear and beautiful and very swimmable -- with a firepit and an amazing view. We had a relaxing time, playing games and cooking on the fire and roasting marshmallows and swimming and enjoying the good company.

Carol also took us on a little tour of Ticonderoga. We visited the museum, the kissing bridge, drove up Mt. Pleasant, and of course went to the fort. It's not the actual fort, it's a reconstruction, as the original fell into disrepair in the 19th century, but it's a lot of fun. There's a lot of history there. Ticonderoga translates to "the place between the water," as it's right between Lakes Champlain and George -- those two names are fitting, one French, one English, as the French and British fought over the land, y'know, a lot. It was a major port of call, and a flashpoint for both the French and Indian and Revolutionary Wars.

Anyhow, it was tonsa fun. It was nice to just get away from it all for a bit.

Today, of course, it's back to the grind. I have to write Farscape #14, I'm helping teach at the dojo this afternoon, and the first of several retirement parties for my aunt is tonight.
