Summary: Your parents are the ones who gave you life and always wanted what was best for you, but what if what was best turns out to be something they never wanted?
Kris bit his bottom lip nervously as he stared out the window of the plane. He and Adam were on their way to Arkansas to see his family and to tell them about their relationship. They had been together ever since the end of the American Idol tour almost a year ago. Katy hadn’t taken the news well but she wanted Kris to be happy so she signed the divorce papers and was gone. Not long after that, Kris had moved into Adam’s apartment and that had been several months ago.
Kris was worried that his family wouldn’t like hearing that he was with Adam but that was who he loved and always would. He jumped slightly as a hand on his knee pulled him from his thoughts. “You okay babe?” Adam asked softly as he looked at Kris. Kris nodded and gave him a small smile. “Yeah.. just a little nervous,” he admitted. “Don’t be, I’m sure everything will be fine,” Adam tried assuring him of that but he wasn’t too sure himself.
Adam knew Kris’ family was very religious and that they most likely wouldn’t approve of him and Kris together, but that didn’t matter to him. Sure he wanted Kris’ family to like him, but if they didn’t at least he would still have Kris, his love, his life, his soul mate.
“I hope you’re right,” came Kris’ soft reply. He knew that no matter what, he would always have Adam, but he still didn’t want his family to hate him or disown him. He could only hope that things would be okay and that by some miracle, they would accept the way he lived his life now, and who he lived it with.
Kris had told his family about the divorce not long after it happened, but he had said it was because things weren’t working out. Which wasn’t a complete lie, just not the whole truth. That’s what this trip was about. To let them know exactly what was going on in his life right now.
They had told Adam’s family not long after they started the relationship and they were all thrilled, already loving Kris like part of the family. He could only hope his family would treat Adam the same way that Adam’s family had treated him.
All too soon the plane landed and he followed Adam off and into the airport, getting their bags then getting a rental car. After putting their stuff in the back, they were headed to a hotel. They had decided to get settled in first before going to Kris’ parents’ house.
Kris sighed as he plopped down on the bed, Adam falling down beside him and putting his arm around Kris’s waist. “Please try not to worry Kris,” he said softly, kissing his cheek. “I can’t help it, I love you and I want my family to love you too.” He bit his lip as he curled up against Adam’s side.
Adam knew that Kris was nervous and honestly he was a little nervous too. He really did want Kris’ family to like him but somehow he knew that would be a miracle if they did. Guess they would both just have to wait and see for sure what happened when they told his family the news.
