Notes: \o/ Yay! I got it out in a fairly good time this time! Take that winter and your stupid colds! :D
Kris woke up the next morning, feeling lighter than he had in years, with Adam curled around him like a protective cocoon. Kris breathed in deep, smiling when he smelled Adam's shampoo and body wash still clinging to his skin, and turned in his boyfriend's arms. He felt like he'd been cleansed, washed free of his fears and worries.
He stretched, nuzzling his face into Adam's throat and inhaling that deep, familiar scent of his lover. He wanted to spend all day curled up together, but...
Kris sighed and pulled himself up out of the bed, pouting as he padded into the bathroom to shower and get ready to head out. He had an appointment with Caden early today, and then he had work - and maybe he could figure out who talked to Daniel - and Adam had a performance that night. I'm not gonna be able to go to it, either... Kris pouted even more as he washed his hair. Stupid work...
Kris glanced in the mirror as he was walking out and... whoa. He hadn't even noticed how much he'd changed... Like Alli said a while ago, he'd gained weight. He wasn't nearly as scrawny as he was before. He wasn't getting chubby, either, he noticed now that he was actually gaining with all the heavy lifting he was doing at work, he had a good bit of muscle definition. His hair had grown out a bit, too. He frowned; he looked... not weird but... older. Matured. It was... different. He never noticed any of it before except in the split second moments like when Adam or Alli would comment on it.
“Kriiiis.” Adam whined from the bedroom, and Kris snapped out of his thoughts. He wrapped his towel around his waist and peeked out.
There was Adam, tangled up in the sheets looking around for Kris sleepily, pretty-pink freckled lip sticking out until he saw Kris. He made grabby hands at him until Kris came over.
“Miss'dyou...” Adam slurred sleepily, nuzzling into Kris' thigh as his arms curled around Kris' waist.
Oh god, I think I just got cavities everywhere... Kris smiled softly as he brushed his fingers through Adam's bed-messy hair. “I was only gone for a bit.”
Adam's pout deepened. “Nuh. Dun matter.”
Kris chuckled, then wiggled down until he could wrap around Adam, pushing his towel off to the floor. He sighed, tracing his fingers down Adam's spine and grinning as he shuddered. Wish I could stay...
Kris' happy little smile faded and he huffed, pulling away from Adam. Adam whined again, clinging and Kris almost whined right back. “I gotta go. Caden, remember?”
Adam shook his head. “Skippit.”
Kris stopped and stared down at his boyfriend. He's usually encouraging the therapy sessions... He felt his brow furrowing and he knelt by the bed to be eye level with Adam, wrapping his hands around to cup Adam's freckled cheeks. “Babe? What's up?”
Adam blinked sleepily at him, then shook his head. “Nothing.”
“No, not nothing.” Kris brushed his thumbs over his love's cheekbones, tracing over the generous smattering of freckles there. Just above that, Adam's blue eyes were clouded, not just from sleep but with worry, and it made Kris' stomach sink. “Tell me.”
Adam frowned, then sighed and dropped his gaze, staring down at the pillow instead. “I just... I have this feeling...” He reached his hands out again, digging his fingers into Kris' shoulders just a little too tight. “Like, like something bad is going to happen.”
Kris looked over Adam's face; he really did look like he was terrified of Kris leaving. Kris smiled softly and moved a hand up, curling his fingers into Adam's hair. “I'm gonna be fine. Nothing's going to happen.” Adam still look worried. Kris chewed on his lip for a bit then grinned, tilting Adam's face up and waiting until those wide blue eyes looked up at him. “Tell you what, how about I call you as soon as I'm out of the office and as soon as I get out of work I'll send you a text. So you'll know, okay?” He smiled. “Tommy is gonna be there with me all the time, too, and you know how protective he is.”
Adam stared for a bit then nodded. “Yeah.” He smiled softly. “Yeah, okay.”
Kris beamed. “Good.” He leaned in and, just to make Adam laugh, rubbed their noses together.
Adam snorted and yawned, stretching cat-like in the bed before he got up. “Okay, but I'm going to take you to your appointment.” He grinned. “I don't want to let you go quite yet.”
“Kay.” Kris nodded, leaning up on his tiptoes to press a kiss to Adam's curling mouth. “I'll wait.”
Adam's eyes dropped to his lips for a split second before meeting his eyes again, then he gave Kris a much more passionate, lingering kiss before he pulled away and padded away to the bathroom.
Kris just rolled his eyes and licked his lips for that last taste of Adam then fell back on the bed, grinning up at the ceiling, knowing that this? This was the best he was going to have it, and he was definitely more than okay with that.
Caden was surprised about Daniel calling him, if how long they spent talking about it meant anything. “Do you think you were ready to talk to him?”
Kris shrugged. “I didn't feel like it but... I guess so.” He huffed. “I snapped at him, a lot. We spent most of the time yelling at each other.”
Caden nodded. “Well, that's understandable. There's a lot you never got the chance to express to your family, and with all those emotions and thoughts building over time...”
“Yeah.” Kris sighed. “I know.” He paused a moment, staring down at his hands for a while then looked back up. “I felt better in the morning, I felt like all, well... most of the bad stuff that'd happened to me were cleansed out.”
That made Caden give him an interested arch of his brow. “Did you tell him about what happened since you last saw him?”
Kris felt a flush wash over his neck and shook his head. “I, um, I figured it'd be too much at once.”
“And you're afraid of what he'll think, again, right?”
The flush spread and Kris nodded. “Yeah...”
Caden puffed out a breath, then flicked open Kris' journal, going through pages until he got to an empty page. He then took out his pen and started writing something at the top. Kris tried to lean over to see, but Caden just countered by leaning back, tilting the journal forward so Kris couldn't see.
“Here's what I want you to do.” Caden handed the journal back, the page he wrote on open, then tapped the words he wrote with his pen. “Whenever you think about that, or become self-conscious of what someone else will think, remember this, go to this page if you have to. With anyone, even Adam or your brother.”
Kris blinked, then looked down to read the few words on the page.
Remember, anyone who doesn't want to be around you, or who hates you for who you are, or what you've been through; they don't deserve you worrying about their opinions or how to make them feel better around you.
Kris huffed, then smiled softly. Sounds kinda like something Adam would say about my parents... He looked up at Caden and nodded. I'll tell him but... not yet.
After that, they spent a few more moments talking about what Kris hoped to have with his brother again - seeing him, of course, once we got to knowing each other again, anyway - before the session was over. As Kris walked down the hall to leave he queued up Adam's number and called, smiling when Adam answered. “Hi! I just got out.”
“Yay, how'd it go?” Adam asked.
“Fine. Like usual.” He walked out the doors and grinned when he saw Tommy waiting where Adam usually was. “Tommy's here so I'll let you go and start getting ready. I'll see if maybe I can convince Alli to record it or something.”
He could practically hear Adam's flush and sweet little smile through the phone. “You're ridiculous. Have a good time at work.”
Rather be with you. “Kay. I love you, baby.”
Adam chuckled softly. “Love you, too.”
Kris beamed, before he ended the call and turned to Tommy. Tommy, who was smirking at him. “What?”
Tommy shook his head and chuckled. “You two are absolutely cavity-inducing. It's ridiculous.”
Kris flushed all over, then shoved at his friend. “Shut up. Let's go.” He still couldn't quite wipe the smile from his face, though. He never really thought it was possible to stop smiling just hearing those three little words, anyway.
A few hours into work, Aiden came by. He knocked on the warehouse door and peered in before he grinned as Kris rushed over, dropping everything and squeezing the man into his arms.
“Ow, damn!” Aiden laughed as Kris bear hugged him. “You got some muscles there, man. Not so hard.”
Kris chuckled and let him go. “Sorry. I just, it's been a while. And! And, I have something to tell you.”
Aiden grinned, then looked over Kris' shoulder. “You sure it's okay to socialize with your boss?”
Kris rolled his eyes, then turned to look at Tommy. “Can I take a little break?”
Tommy, in turn, rolled his eyes and waved them off. Kris beamed and practically bounced outside with Aiden. He's gonna flip! Kris snickered to himself before he turned to his friend, who was giving him an odd look. “Do I want to know?”
Kris grinned. “I talked to my brother the other day.” He blurted.
Aiden's eyes went wide and he let out a surprised laugh, crushing Kris into a hug. He pulled him away then, lips curled into the biggest smile he'd ever seen on the other man's face. “Really? I mean, how'd it go? How'd he even contact you?”
Kris shrugged. “Fine, I guess. I mean, we yelled at each other for a bit... and then it kinda... got emotional after that.”
Aiden's smile softened and he squeezed Kris' biceps where he was gripping them. “I'm happy for you, Kris.” He tugged the smaller man in again. “You excited about talking with him, again?”
Kris nodded. “Yeah, definitely.” He sighed, then huffed a laugh against Aiden's shoulder. “I might still be a little in disbelief.”
Aiden snorted. “Well, yeah. Understandable.” He pulled back again, then looked over Kris' shoulder. “I should probably let you get back to work...” He shrugged. “I figured I'd drop by to check on you.”
Kris grinned. “Well, next time you need to do it someplace not at work. We can actually talk there for a while.”
Aiden grinned right back, bobbing his head. “Yeah, I'll drop by your place, maybe.”
“You better.” Aiden laughed at the threatening frown Kris gave him for a few seconds before he was grinning again. “Soon, though, yeah?”
Aiden nodded, before he was walking off again, and Kris padded back inside to get back to work.
Later, he'd finished up just fast enough to rush over to the club where Adam was, glad the warehouse was close enough in town for him to catch the last few minutes, panting and out of breath, but smiling up at his Adam, who was practically glowing on stage.
“See?” Kris muttered between kisses, even later when they were curled up together at home, Kris leaning over Adam and connecting freckles with his lips. “Nothing - bad...” He pulled back then and grinned down at his boyfriend, with his blown, wide blue eyes and lips that were already swollen and red from when they couldn't pull apart getting through the door. He traced his fingers reverently over those full lips and felt his smile soften. Best day I've had in a while, actually...
Adam playfully rolled his eyes then pulled Kris back down, mashing their mouths back together. Then, Kris stopped talking and thinking, and just continued his worship of Adam's body; licking over every single freckle he could find, licking his lips to savor the taste more, and his hands skimming over shivering skin, swallowing every moan that slipped past those just-as-sweet lips.
