Authors: jazeycisdabomb and andrewluvsu
Pairings: Kradam
Disclaimer: NOT TRUE in the case of Adam and Kris. Based on a true story, but NOT them. Title is from 'A Day to Be Alone' by One Less Reason
Rating of this chapter: PG-13
Summary: Just another love story, but this one isn't filled with chocolates, butterflies, and fluffy bunny rabbits...though sometimes there are rainbows ;)
Warnings....lots of them: At times, this will be a pretty dark story...deals with domestic violence, rape, anorexia with a touch of bulimia, cutting, and death (but not of major characters). Also, since this is based on personal experiences, it may get pretty detailed and deep. It could be triggering. You have been warned!!!!!!
Notes: This is kiiiiiiiiiind of a filler chapter, but there are a couple important parts still
Chapter 1 Chapter 2 Chapter 3 Chapter 4 Chapter 5 Chapter 6 Chapter 7 Chapter 8 Chapter 9 Chapter 10 Chapter 11 Adam felt good that Kris finally told him something deep about himself. He also, of course, felt terrible that Kris had to go through all that and that he had put him through so much stress when he'd obviously already had more than anyone deserved to have in their lifetime.
From that point on, he began studying Kris. He said he was okay, and Adam believed him for the most part, but , just sometimes, his smile didn't meet his eyes and his laugh didn't come from the heart. Adam was clueless as to what to do though, so when that happened, he would could only wrap Kris in his arms and hold him tightly. It seemed to work. Either that or Kris just realized he "needed" to pretend better.
Adam hated seeing Kris sad, so even though he had not eaten for two days, secretly of course, he made a promise to himself to getter better for Kris, and that did seem to make his boyfriend happier. As the weight went up. so did Kris's joy. Adam hated the first part, but the second part made him happy, so he guessed it equaled out.
Thanks to Kris, Fall passed quickly and soon, it was time for winter break. The best part was that Kris would be staying at the apartment the entire two weeks.
"Okay, Adam," Neil said the morning of the last day of school. "I like Kris better than any of your other boyfriends, and I think you do too, so, please, use protection."
"NEIL!" Adam screeched. "We're not going to have sex!"
"You never know. Those things just happen sometimes..."
"Neil, come on. It's only been three months. I am not going to give it up that soon."
"Okay, but just in case, there are condoms in the drawer of my nightstand."
"EW!" he screamed before running out the door to pick up Kris.
"Is two bags really all you have?" Adam asked incredulously.
"Yep," Kris said, smiling and leaning over to give Adam a kiss.
"You are staying the whole two weeks, right?"
"Of course! I'm so excited!"
"Then how do you only have two bags?"
Kris laughed. "I'm a pretty simple guy, I guess."
Adam shook his head, still perplexed. Kris laughed again.
That day was great. For one, Adam noticed smugly that Connor and Noah had broken up. The most important thing, of course, was his excitement for the break, even thought he was nervous too. He hoped he and Kris could stand each other's company non-stop for two weeks.
It turned out, he had nothing to worry about. The two of them watched tons of movies, played tons of games, (Kris ate tons and Adam ate enough,) and, the most fun of all, they also kissed a lot.
Christmas morning was the best Christmas of Adam's life so far. Neil and Kris put on Santa Hats and held hands while listening to 'Jingle Bell Rock.' Plus, the boyfriends had spoiled each other. Kris got Adam tons of clothes, make up, stuff for his room and a teddy bear. Adam got Kris video games and a bunch of other manly stuff the guy at the store said he would like. Kris even got Cici, Adam's dog, lots of presents.
Once they were done at the apartment, they went to Kris's for their Christmas. He was nervous because he was to meet Kris's whole family, but he didn't have to worry about that either. They loved him, and his little cousin even apparently had a mini crush on him. Still, on the way back to the apartment, Adam had to ask, "Do you think they liked me?"
"I know they did," Kris assured him.
"How?"
"My uncle-not the one I live with, but a different one-pulled me aside and told me if I broke your sweet little heart, he'd disown me."
Adam laughed a little too loudly in his nervousness. "Wow! I don't know what I did to get them to like me that much!"
"You were just yourself. You're totally lovable, Adam."
He shook his head, not disagreeing or agreeing, just disbelieving and relieved. Kris leaned over to kiss his cheek real quick, then sat back to let him drive.
"How'd it go?" Neil asked when the boys walked in.
"Great. They're trying to marry me off already," Kris told him.
"Oh yeah? You gonna let them?"
Adam looked at Kris, eyes wide. He knew it was too early to be thinking of marriage, but he didn't want to hear Kris flat out say he didn't want to marry him. Like usual though, Kris surprised him by saying, "Eventually."
Adam beamed. Neil squealed his 'Aw's. Ashley, his girlfriend, told him to shut up. Adam thanked her.
That night, as the two boys laid in Adam's bed, Kris said, "I love you. You know that, right?"
"Of course, Kris. I love you too."
"But, Adam, I really, really love you. Like, I'm in love with you."
"In love?"
"Yes."
Adam smiled, voice going up an octave as he said, "Really?!"
"Very much."
Adam beamed, then, realizing it was awkward not saying anything, opened and closed his mouth repeatedly, trying to get the sentence out. Kris smiled and kissed him.
"It's okay. Don't say it until you're ready."
"I am ready."
"Obviously not."
Adam frowned because he knew it was true and felt bad, but Kris only smiled and kissed him again. "It's okay, Adam. When you say it, it will be special."
"But I do love you."
"I know you do. Don't worry. I know."
"You really think you're in love with me, though?"
"No. I know I am."
Adam smiled, but almost didn't want to believe it in case Kris changed his mind, so he asked, "How?"
"How do I know?"
"Yeah."
"Because...whenever I'm around you, I'm so happy, except when I know you're not. I would do anything to make you feel good, and when there's nothing I can do, it kills me. Plus, I can't imagine myself ever being with anyone else and I would never want to be. There's no way I could love anyone else like this."
Adam smiled wider, but buried his face into the mattress. Kris took that the wrong way.
"What's the matter?"
"Nothing," Adam replied. "Nothing at all."
Kris kissed the back of his head and played with his hair until he fell asleep, still happy.
Unfortunately, Kris had to go home the night before school started up again. Adam didn't want to let him.
"Kriiiiis," he whined. "Stay with me."
"Adam, I'm pretty sure your landlord and, more importantly, your brother, are getting tired of me."
"Neil's not...and Mr. Linn can suck an egg."
Kris laughed. "I'll see you tomorrow at school, love."
"Promise?"
"Well why wouldn't I?"
"I dunno...you could get sick or something..."
"I feel fine, and even if my temperature is 105 and I'm puking up my guts, I'll come to school just to keep my promise."
"Um...don't do that. I'll just skip school to come take care of you."
"That works too. I love you."
"Love you too."
"Sleep well tonight."
"I can't. I'm gonna be alone!"
Kris shook his head and looked at Cici. "Take care of him, alright?"
She yipped in agreement. Kris smiled and gave Adam a kiss, then left with Bri, who was picking him up because it was snowing and she didn't want Adam to have to drive in it. That disappointed Adam. He was hoping that he would have taken Kris home and then Bri would worry about the snow and ask him to stay the night. Kris probably needed a break from him though, he reasoned, but was proven wrong that night when he got a call from Kris.
"I miss you soooo much!" he cried right after Adam had answered the phone.
"I miss you too," Adam assured him.
"I neeeeed you!"
He sort of laughed. "You need me?"
"Yes! I don't feel complete without you!"
"And you call me dramatic."
Kris laughed. "I know, I know. Seriously, though, that was the best two weeks of my life."
"Mine too."
"We need to do it again sometime."
"Definitely."
"Until then...I guess I'll just lay here trying to mend my broken heart..."
"Oh my goodness."
Kris kind of laughed again. "Okay. I'll stop being dramatic and let you go. I love you."
"I love you too. I'll see you tomorrow."
"Definitely! Bye, Adam."
"Bye."
"Oh my gosh," Neil, who Adam had been watching a movie with, said. "He has fallen soooo hard."
Adam only shrugged.
"Seriously, dude," Neil said. "Don't break his heart."
"Why do you think I would do that?"
"Well...you did it to the only other one that was good to you."
Adam looked away. If only Neil knew...
"Adam, oh my gosh! It's been like, forever!" Kris exclaimed when Adam picked him up the next morning.
"I know! It's like I barely recognize you anymore!" Adam teased, giving his boyfriend a hug and kiss.
"Tell me about it. Sooo...how'd you sleep?"
"Fine. You?"
"Okay."
"What are you doing after school today?"
"Going to bug you at work."
"Sounds good to me."
"Great!"
The two of them smiled, neither able to wait.
