Notes: I wrote something that isn't a HS AU! \o/ ...it's a college AU! lol. No beta on this one, mistakes are all mine.

Adam wasn't sure how he got signed up for this Biology 101 class - something about a humanities credit and a course outline and his future; he wasn't really listening - but he was probably going to kill his advisor before the end of the semester. He stopped outside the locked door, slumping to the floor and tugging his iPod out of his bag. He thumbed through his music and settled on some Goldfrapp to calm his annoyance before the professor showed up.

He was a senior, set to graduate in the spring, and he was more than ready to be done with college. Not that the parties weren't fun and the friends he made weren't amazing. But the classes were a bore and all he really wanted to do was sing and perform. No amount of lecture and exams could help him there; he needed exposure and a big break, something he couldn't get trapped in a classroom.

Sighing, he closed his eyes and rested his head against the cool wall behind him. His busy weekend caught up with him and he began to drift, the music making his head foggy.

Kris was lost. His first day at this stupid college and he was helplessly and pathetically lost. When he finally found what he hoped was the right building, he rushed inside and hurried down the hallway. He spun around the corner, grunting when his feet caught something hard and he tumbled into the lap of a stranger sprawled out on the floor.

The guy's eyes shot open with a start and he tugged his headphones out frantically, struggling to get out from under him. "Jesus, what the fuck," he grumbled, obviously still only half-awake.

"Oh my god, man, I'm so sorry. I was afraid I was gonna be late and I was in a hurry and I didn't see you when I turned the corner and your legs are so long, they were just there and I'm so clumsy. I can't help it, I just fall over everything and did I hurt you? Are you okay? I'm sorry."

"Oh my fuck, just shut up for a second." Kris bit his bottom lip, suddenly acutely aware that he was still sitting in this stranger's lap. Adam rubbed the sleep from his eyes and his eyebrows shot up as he finally got a good look at the boy who'd tripped over him. A slow smile spread across his face. "Hi..."

"Uh, hi." As subtly as he could manage, Kris slid off of Adam, settling into a kneeling position a couple feet away.

"Freshman?" Adam couldn't keep the laughter out of his voice and Kris nodded, ducking his head.

"Yeah, that obvious?"

Adam shook his head and chuckled. "Lucky guess." He stood up and brushed off his jeans, offering Kris a hand. "Come on, don't want to be late on your first day of school."

Maybe Biology 101 wouldn't be so bad after all.

The two of them settled into the lab bench near the back of the room, farthest from the door - and the professor. Adam took out his phone and checked his texts absentmindedly from behind his bag, while Kris took out his books and pens and highlighter, making neat rows of supplies on his half of the table.

Adam chuckled and nudged Kris's side with his elbow. "Calm down, you're making me nervous and I don't even get nervous." His easy smile put Kris at ease and he took a deep breath, relaxing instantly.

The professor clapped his hands and the entire class turned their attention to him. "Students, welcome to Biology 101. I'm Professor Kesler. This year we'll study everything from cells to evolution. There will be homework; there will be tests. My TA's are handing out the syllabus now. Look it over, memorize it. We will not stray from this." He let everyone scan over the sheet for a moment before continuing, "Please turn to the person to your left or right. This person will be your lab partner for the duration of the semester. Get to know them, I will not alter these arrangements for any reason. Introduce yourselves and get friendly."

Adam glanced over at Kris, who looked a little wary. "I think we already got pretty acquainted earlier, but hi. I'm Adam."

A faint blush crept up Kris's cheeks. "Kris Allen."

"Looks like we're gonna be best friends by the end of this, Kris Allen." Adam said it like it was a fact and Kris had better get used to it. Truth be told, he kind of already was.

"Looks like it."

"Oh my god," Adam groaned, opening the door to his dorm room and letting them both inside. "I ate way too much food." He flopped back on his bed dramatically.

Kris gave him a look and sat down at Adam's desk. "You had a salad. And a roll. And half a bottle of water."

"I am going to get so fat," Adam continued on, seemingly ignoring anything Kris had said.

"If you're fishing for compliments, you know it'll work." That made Adam's head pop off the bed, a lopsided grin taking over his face.

"You're my favorite."

Kris smirked. "I know. But we have a lab due tomorrow and I'm pretty sure you haven't even started working on it, am I right?"

Adam sighed and sat up, propping himself against the wall. "You know me too well." Kris rolled his eyes and pulled his Biology 101 binder out of his bag, joining Adam on his bed.

"Okay, just write out the procedure while I work on our conclusion." They worked in comfortable silence, until Adam's phone chimed a few minutes later. He checked it absentmindedly. "Who is it?" Kris asked, without looking up from his paper.

"Tommy, he's inviting us to a party Friday night."

"Sure, we're not busy, right?"

"No, I don't think so. I'll tell him we'll be there." Adam tapped a quick reply and set his phone back on the dresser next to his bed.

Kris nodded and kept working, only pausing when he realized Adam was silent and still next to him. He glanced up. "You okay?"

"Yeah, I uh..." He trailed off and Kris gave him a perplexed look. Adam was never at a loss for words around him. It was what put Kris at ease around him all the time.

He set down his pen and turned to face Adam. "What's wrong?"

Adam's eyes were fixed on Kris's and he felt more than saw all the breath leave Adam's body at once. And then Adam's mouth was on his, kissing him softly. It was chaste and quick, closed-mouth and dry, but Kris felt like his whole body was on fire.

Adam broke away from him, his eyes wide and horrified. "Oh my god. I am so sorry. Fuck, what did I do?" He ran a hand through his hair and scooted away from Kris.

"Adam, I..." Kris's throat was dry and his voice came out rough.

"Let's just pretend that never happened, okay? Please." Adam sounded desperate and panicked.

Kris nodded, hating to see Adam so torn up. "Sure, yeah. Never happened." He picked up his pen again, chewing on the end absently. The silence was tension-filled this time, both of them unsure what to say or do. Kris couldn't remember the last time he hadn't wanted to be around Adam, but right now all he wanted to do was curl up in his own bed, away from this heat and embarrassment.

The party was what Kris had expected. It was loud and dark and hot, filled with strangers and music and alcohol. He was standing near the makeshift bar, drinking his sixth beer of the night. He was straddling the line between tipsy and drunk precariously.

He hadn't seen Adam since he got here and he wasn't sure if he was allowed to feel this disappointed. They'd barely spoken since their kiss-that-shall-not-be-spoken-of, only seeing each other in Biology while working awkwardly side-by-side.

As if on cue, he spotted Adam in the middle of the dance floor, his hands thrown up over his head as he danced with some stranger to the heavy beat of the music. An angry jealousy bubbled up in Kris and he slammed his drink down on the nearest table, making his way across the crowded floor.

"Excuse me," he mumbled to the boy Adam was dancing with, slipping between them easily. Kris was no dancer, but his body seemed to know what to do on its own. His arms snaked around Adam's waist and he twisted his hips against Adam's, groaning involuntarily at the sudden friction. He rested his cheek on Adam's shoulder, rocking his body against Adam's in time to the music.

Kris felt Adam's hands rest gently on his hips and lifted his chin, his mouth wet and warm just below Adam's ear. "You are so stupid," he breathed, pressing his whole body into Adam's. They weren't even dancing anymore, just moving against each other.

The heavy beat faded in something smoother and softer. Kris nosed his way along Adam's jaw, ghosting kisses along the sweaty skin. He felt Adam's pulse under his lips, steady and quick. Adam's grip on his hips tightened minutely and Kris took this as encouragement, lifting his lips to Adam's in a sloppy, open-mouth kiss.

It was entirely different than their first kiss. It was wet and dirty, full of teeth and desperation. Kris slipped his hands under Adam's shirt, his fingers digging into Adam's lower back and spurring him on. He felt Adam's low growl melt into his mouth and he ground his hips against Adam's eagerly.

Someone bumped into Kris from behind suddenly and he stumbled, breaking apart from Adam. He felt his chest rising and falling as he took harsh breaths, Adam's body mirroring his own.

"I'm so stupid," Adam murmured, his voice gravely, making Kris's entire body feel charged with electricity.

"So stupid," he agreed with a grin, his fingers slipping into Adam's belt loops. Adam rested his forehead against Kris's, laughing softly.

Kris hurried into the Biology lab, throwing himself into his seat.

Adam gave him an amused look. "You know, if you left your dorm earlier, you wouldn't have to run to every class."

"Shut up," he mumbled, grabbing his phone and hiding it behind his bag on the lab bench to check his texts. He felt Adam reach over, resting his hand on Kris's thigh. Fighting back a smile, he slipped his hand below their table, lacing their fingers together.

Biology 101 might be Adam's favorite class.

The end.
