Summary: Kris and Adam discuss their surprise duet at the Jingle Ball and do a reprise for each other, privately.

“I still can’t believe you cancelled on Larry King live last night to make our duet happen.” Kris nuzzled in close to Adam and let out a happy sigh.

“Well, we had to have a chance to practice if we were gonna pull that off, didn’t we? I’m still amazed that you wanted to do this, despite only getting three songs for your set.”

“I would have done a Christmas song anyway. I’ve already done Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree and The Christmas Song. You know how I like to change things up.”

“Oh, Kris,” Adam replied, a grin on his face. “I love the way you like to keep things interesting. You’re so much more adventurous than people realize.”

“So what you’re saying is,” Kris murmured, tracing a finger down Adam’s chest, “I’m not at all vanilla.”

“More like Cherry Garcia with a splash of Caramel Sutra.”

Kris laughed, then captured Adam’s mouth for a wet, sloppy tongue kiss. Adam tasted so damn good and Kris would rather kiss him than do almost anything else. Almost. “Hopefully I can keep you guessing, as much as we’re keeping the fans guessing. We sure took them by surprise tonight, didn’t we?”

“We sure did. It was a blast to watch people’s faces when the realization of what we were singing hit them.”

“Shock and awe, baby. Shock and awe.” Kris knew he shouldn't be getting so much delight out of causing massive jaw-dropping all over Madison Square Garden. “They’ll be talking about Kradam, not Swift or Mayer or Bieber tomorrow around the watercooler. And you thought you’d be able to avoid controversy for a while.” Kris couldn’t pull his eyes away from Adam’s. They were sparkling with joy. It was so good to see that back in Adam’s face after the wearying weeks since the AMA performance, answering all the questions over and over again, Adam more disappointed over his vocal performance than anything else and having to watch video of it over and over.

There would be video of tonight, for sure. They’d both been vocally perfect. There’d been no groping or kissing on stage, but they’d been controversial none-the-less, playing the “best friends” card, yet singing a “lovers” song. Adam traced a finger over Kris’s lips, leaned in to plant a light kiss there and linger for just a moment, noses pressed together, then pulled back to hit the beginning notes of “their” shock-inducing song, Adam singing the lady’s part: “I really can’t stay….”

Kris grinned and crooned back, “Baby it’s cold outside.”

They sang on, to one another, back and forth and much closer than they’d done on stage earlier, the song giving them new energy despite the lateness of the hour and the exhaustion of the day:

I've got to go away……Baby it's cold outside
This evening has been…..Been hoping that you'd drop in
So very nice….I'll hold your hands, they're just like ice
My mother will start to worry….Beautiful, what's your hurry
My father will be pacing the floor…..Listen to the fireplace roar
So really I'd better scurry….Beautiful, please don't hurry
Well Maybe just a half a drink more….Put some music on while I pour

The neighbors might think…..Baby, it's bad out there
Say, what's in this drink…..No cabs to be had out there
I wish I knew how….Your eyes are like starlight now
To break this spell…..I'll take your hat, your hair looks swell
I ought to say no, no, no, sir……Mind if I move a little closer
At least I'm gonna say that I tried….What's the sense in hurting my pride
I really can't stay….Baby don't hold out
Ahh, but it's cold outside

I simply must go….Baby, it's cold outside
The answer is no…. Ooh baby, it's cold outside
This welcome has been….I'm lucky that you dropped in
So nice and warm…..Look out the window at that storm
My sister will be suspicious….Man, your lips look so delicious
My brother will be there at the door….Waves upon a tropical shore
My maiden aunt's mind is vicious……Gosh your lips look delicious
Well maybe just a half a drink more….Never such a blizzard before

I've got to go home….Oh, baby, you'll freeze out there
Say, lend me your comb…..It's up to your knees out there
You've really been grand….Your eyes are like starlight now
But don't you see….How can you do this thing to me
There's bound to be talk tomorrow…..Making my life long sorrow
At least there will be plenty implied….If you caught pneumonia and died
I really can't stay….Get over that hold out
Ahh, but it's cold outside

They closed the song, singing the final line, “Baby it’s cold outside,” in unison, then cracking up. It had been a glorious evening, and Kris hadn’t felt this good in months. He could hardly wait till somebody else was the new “American Idol” and he and Adam could be seen together as a couple, not pretending to be best friends. Of course, tonight was gonna cause speculation and he didn’t even give a damn.

Kris sighed. Good things had to come to an end eventually, and it was very late. “So, I guess I need to get cleaned up and head back to my room in case somebody comes looking for me?”

Adam lifted the covers and took a long, leisurely look underneath. Kris felt himself blushing, even though he loved the way Adam eye-raped his naked body. Damn, nobody’d ever made him feel sexier! Adam whispered, “Pretty messy, baby. Looks like we could both use a clean-up, but it’s late and we’re both tired. I say stay here in my bed tonight and we shower together in the morning. Snuggle in nice and warm. Baby, it’s cold outside.”
