DONNA DONNA DONNA DONNA
This is possibly the cutest episode I have ever seen. They are just so adorable.
I think Donna may be creeping up on Kris's Favourite Companion already..? I think she is absolutely incredible. And so this is a list of ALL THE REASONS I LIKE DONNA.
1) She is badass.
Was she using her driver's license to sneak into a press conference and the call center of this new company in order to investigate? That is something Donna would do, because she is TOO BADASS FOR MERE WORDS. I really liked that she and the Doctor mirrored each other so closely in this episode, because it shows something about Donna's character. I know that a lot of it was for the comedy of them just missing seeing each other as they sneak about the Matron's company, but at the same time Donna is doing the same things the Doctor is, on her own. Because she hopes to find him, and because there is something suspicious happening, she sneaks in to the building and investigates, assumes fake identities, hides in a bathroom stall to sneak around at night, steals evidence. We see the Doctor do this all the time, but he's the Doctor. This is just Donna Noble and the fact that she is so similar, and just as fearless as our Timelord makes her brilliant.
2) She is hilarious.
I can't even express how close I was to death when the Doctor and Donna finally saw each other through the windows as they spied on the Matron. Her excitement, and her enthusiasm for the adventure she turned down is brilliant and I instantly loved their interactions and the way they played off each other and oh my god it is a return to the joy and loveliness and maybe all won't hurt again for at least a little while please god. wahhhhh.
She also just shuts him down when the Doctor talks about Martha fancying him. Thank you, Donna, for stepping all over the alien's feelings. Rude. and awesome.
3) She has the CUTEST GRANDFATHER EVER
That needs no explanation, thank you.
4) She sees through the Doctor immediately.
I really loved, in Runaway Bride, that she saw his darker side and that she saw, immediately, that he should not be travelling alone. Rose understood this about the Doctor as well, but not until she had been travelling with him for a long time. I don't know that Martha ever understood this (because while I understand why Martha left, Martha left him and that makes me really sad). Donna just understands, and there is something pretty awesome about that.
While he is trying to crack the machine the Matron is using and save a million lives, she is watching him and sees that he looks older and asks if he has been alone. While there could be better times to distract the Doctor, thank you, Donna, I think this is why I already love her so much. Rose and Martha fell in love with the side of the Doctor that was all light and fun and adventurous. It was what they saw first, and when they saw the darkness, later, it was just a shadow on the man they loved. Donna saw him broken after just losing Rose, saw him destroy the last of a race of creatures, the children in front of the mother, and she understood that it wasn't this one-time thing that happened to him in a terrible situation, but that this was what lurked inside him, always. And while he is trying to save the humans, she is looking at him and she asks him if he was alone.
Martha had to refuse to leave a planet for him to tell her something important. Rose learned bits and pieces as they traveled together and became friends. Donna asks him a question and he answers freely and I LOVE DONNA NOBLE SO MUCH OMG.
5) She is brave
And despite knowing that it can get dark and terrible and terrifying, she still wants to see it. Knowing he can be dark and terrible and terrifying, she still worries about him, and wants to travel with him.
I think this is the beginning of my absolute and complete adoration of everything Donna Noble, no I will not pass Go, no I will not collect $200 dollars, I am sitting here loving her for the rest of the game, thank you.
Other things that happened that didn't include the AWESOMENESS OF DONNA:
-the little fat babies were possibly the cutest things in the world. I really worried that the Doctor's plan was going to destroy them, and I am glad that they went off into the universe. Donna's observation that the last time they met, the Doctor was not so understanding of innocence was good, and I liked that he admitted that Martha had that influence on him, that her time as his companion took away a little bit of that rage he had. Of course Donna noticed this and wasn't afraid to call him out on it, and she gets an honest answer out of him (oh, look, I made this about Donna, oops {I'm not sorry}).
-The Doctor gave the Matron her 'one chance', but then gave her another, on the rooftop
-wtf was that Rose disappearing into mist like a fucking weirdo ghost WTF DOES THIS MEAN. I can't get into speculation about that because... I honestly have no fucking clue what to expect. How did she get there? How did she vanish? Is it really her? Is it post-Doomsday her? Will she come back? Is it bad that I want Donna and the Doctor to have light-hearted adventures forever before that particular emotional wound is reopened?
-Donna's mom needs to stop ............. {breathing}
-I kind of wouldn't mind giving birth to little fat babies every night if I could lose weight and still eat all the food I wanted? Is that weird?
-I realized as I began this episode that I have no idea how or when Ten becomes Eleven and ended up in a state of panic about it, because this means I am NOT AT ALL PREPARED. And now a shadow of doubt and grief is hanging above me, and even little fat babies and Donna can not extinguish it completely.
- WHAT THE FUCK; ROSE?
