I'm back from Texas, and caught up on yard work. And we found Tundra!
So I spent a little over two weeks in Houston in July, and I'm glad that is over. My mother is recovering nicely from the immediate problem, and we will see how we deal with the underlying challenges over time. It was interesting to see the old neighborhood again. I didn't hold out long enough to go to the local Lego convention- that would have meant spending another week+weekend away, and I didn't have that in me. I did get to overlap with my brother for a day, and that was nice. I have a great family.
Flying home was much less exciting than the way out; a 2 hour delay I spent in the frequent flier lounge (with free booze, which I only had access to due to the delay; Texas blue laws mean the bar doesn't open until 10am Sunday). My sisters picked me up at the airport and we had a nice chat while they drove me to the ferry, and my wife picked me up on the island side. That reminds me- I need to get out to Renton and check out the comics Greg gave me (and Beth).
So this past weekend I did radio club, some yard chores, and on Sunday I rode a 31 mile bike ride, mostly covering North End roads, with a couple of trips down to the shore, just to make my legs hurt. I didn't use quite enough sunblock, but no blisters, so not a serious burn. I skipped family dinner since a) I was tired, and b) the line to the ferry was several hours long. I could have biked, and made someone pick me up, but tired, and wanting to get back in time for the radio net made that harder.
