(mod, i'm reposting, because i noticed some errors from the first time i posted. i hope this is okay.)

Hongki comes home one night looking sad and tired and pissed off and dejected all at once- he always has been pretty transparent with his moods.

"Hey," he says, standing by the doorway of Jonghun's room.

"Hey," Jonghun looks up. He is sitting cross legged on his bed, guitar on hand, and surrounded by crumpled pieces of paper- he had obviously been busy trying to write a new composition.

"I'm home," Hongki just says. "Get back to work," and then he goes off to his own room across the hall.

Jonghun starts to worry.

Hongki is grouchy for the rest of the week and he snaps at everyone for the littlest things. Seunghyun, as usual, gets the brunt of his frustrated outbursts, and there is only so much Jonghun can do to calm him down.

"Don't worry, I'll take care of this," he tells the other members anyway, because what else can he do? Hongki is Hongki, but he's still Jonghun, and he's still the leader.

They're flying back and forth Japan a lot lately, and that probably isn't helping Hongki's stress, and whatever else is bothering him. They're in Japan when Jonghun finally makes his move- he pulls Hongki out of bed in the middle of the night, throws at him some warm clothes, and marches him straight to their manager's car.

"What the fuck's going on?" Hongki snaps, refusing to get into the passenger seat. "Why do you even have the keys to this car?"

"I stole them," Jonghun answers matter-of-factly, getting into the driver's seat without another word.

After a minute Hongki just lets out a sigh of frustration and finally slides into the front seat.

"Where are we going?" Hongki asks, fastening his seatbelt.

"Somewhere," Jonghun answers.

Two hours later and Hongki finally finds out that where 'somewhere' is. They're at a beach, but it's almost 3 in the morning, so it mostly just feels like a deserted place in the middle of nowhere.

"It's fucking freezing in here," Hongki whines the moment he gets off the car, zipping his hoodie all the way up this chin.

Jonghun opens the trunk and throws Hongki the blanket he packed in there. "Don't whine too much," he says. "It's almost summer anyway."

Hongki frowns, and grumbles under his breath, but he says nothing more and just looks over Jonghun's shoulder to see what else he has in there. Jonghun takes out a mini cooler and closes the lid of the trunk. Hongki takes the container from him and takes a peek at the contents,

"Beer?" he asks Jonghun. "The fuck?"

Jonghun shrugs, getting it back, "If you don't want any, I'll drink it all."

Hongki grabs a can, opens it, and takes a sip. "Of course I want some."

They drink in silence for a while, Hongki burrowing his toes in the sand, Jonghun just tapping a quiet rhythm on his lap.

"We broke up," Hongki says suddenly.

"I know. We all know," Jonghun answers.

There's an awkward pause, like Hongki is trying to figure out what else to say, or how to start a story.

"She says I might be willing to fuck my career up over this, but she isn't," Hongki says bitterly.

"Those her exact words?" Jonghun asks, offering Hongki a lit cigarette.

"Not really," Hongki admits, accepting the stick. "She just said some nice bullshit about focusing on her career for now."

Jonghun laughs, and lights his own stick.

"I don't think she liked me as much as I liked her," Hongki says.

Jonghun raises an eyebrow, "I think you mean she figured out you don't like her as much as she likes you."

"But I did like her," Hongki insists. "A lot."

"So this isn't about your pride being hurt?" Jonghun asks.

Hongki stares at him. "Okay, maybe a little," he admits. "Just a little."

Jonghun laughs again. "I was surprised when you first said you liked her, to be honest."

"Yeah?"

"She didn't seem like your type," Jonghun shrugs.

"She was different, wasn't she? It was kind of exciting," Hongki says.

Jonghun chuckles, and just lets out a puff of smoke.

"I'm sorry I've been such a dick," Hongki says softly.

"You're always a dick," Jonghun points out, and they both laugh.

There's a short silence again, and Jonghun absentmindedly plays a little with the sand.
