INBOX #36 ; PROMPT #2

[1/4]
Title: Of Shakespeare, Sonnets & Stage Fright
Pairing: YunHo/JaeJoong
Summary: Overcoming fears, facing reality and finding strength through a stranger

A/N: I gave up on this once, but felt the need to redeem my claim. It's a wonderful prompt, I just don't think that I did well the first time I tried... I can't assure this 2nd try is better, but either way, I tried my best.

It was one of those days that had him nervous as hell, as he walked towards where he was headed. If it weren’t for his sister’s prodding, he won’t be walking that way. He wouldn’t even agree to go in the first place. He loved to read; loved books extremely. But then he’d rather not enter a library and keep to himself, but here he was, off to a darned book club. How cliché.

In the email that he got for the schedule, it was suggested that they bring a book that they can share to the club and he was in panic all morning, looking for a good book to bring, settling on a sonnet compilation of Shakespeare.

Of course, if you don’t know what kind of books people read when you meet them, give them something Shakespeare… at least they know who the person was.

He wasn’t afraid of libraries; really… it’s just that a certain experience in his past made him never want to be in one ever again. People are okay too, but he hated being the center of attention when he spoke. He had always been shy, but he tried his best to overcome it, trying his best to deal with people offhand, but in a whole club of a mass of people, where he needed their eyes on him, no thank you. The thought alone had him ready to turn around and walk back home.

But then he was there, the library in his line of sight. The book club leader knew his sister and he would probably tell on him if he didn’t see him in today’s session.

Giving up, he walked the few steps, hesitating only for a few seconds before walking past the opened double doors of the library.

Almost immediately, the flash of bright lights and the smell of wood filled his senses as he walked in. Looking around, an old woman greeted him.

“You must be here for Literato…”

He only blinked. “Lit… what?”

“Literato? The book club?” The old woman said, pointing to the book he held. “Shakespeare. You can never go wrong with Shakespeare, but judging by your face, you’re a smart boy, I can see. you should’ve brought something more non-eclectic.”

A shy smile stretched across his face as he bowed down in respect. “It’s my first time, I didn’t-”

“Oh it’s fine. Scurry on up, they usually start on time. Second floor, dear.” She prodded, moving away and walking towards where she initially wanted to go.

Walking up the winding staircase, he could feel his heart leap out of his chest. Any heavier and it would run away and leave him. But as hard as it is, he willed himself to calm down. Being nervous wouldn’t help him at all at this point. He was there and he had to suck it all up.

Arriving to where the old lady instructed, he found people sitting on floor and others on the tiny sofa. There were chairs scattered around and a stage on his far left where everyone was gathering. His heart went on overdrive as his mind scolded him for coming here. To speak in front of a lot of people he wasn’t familiar with, was enough of a worry. But a darned stage? “Shit.” He whispered to himself.

He was already there, why the need to back out? So he timidly walked to an unoccupied chair, a little a ways away from the others and sat, looking at nobody, talking to nobody.

“Hey, you okay?” A voice sounded behind him and he stopped himself from jumping out of his seat.

Clutching at his chest, he nodded, looking directly towards 2 almond-shaped eyes that seemed to pierce through a person’s soul. “I-I’m… I’m okay, yes.”

Looking at the book he was holding, the man grinned. “Shakespeare? Interesting.”

A small smile crept on his face as the man continued to ask him.

“Your name?”

Blushing a little, he responded meekly. “JaeJoong…”

“Nice to meet you.” The man replied, but before he could react though, the other walked away, giving him a warm smile before he fully turned his back to him and greeted everyone around.
