I wasn't very good at learning Mandarin. I audited an intensive Mandarin Chinese class at my college a few years after I had graduated, in my sinophile days. I got no credit, but I got to show up for the 5-day a week class, use the same workbooks, practice pronunciation in the class along with everyone else, and use the language lab.
