The morning after is awful.
Okay, at first it isn't really that bad. Sure, Jieun wakes up with a splitting headache, but when the first thing she sees when she open is Jiyeon's peaceful, sleeping face, it kind of makes up for it.
Sure, Jiyeon kind of has drool on the corner of her mouth, but Jieun finds her beautiful anyway. But then Jiyeon begins to stir, and Jieun's heart starts thumping in tune to the throbbing of her head.
Their eyes meet as soon as Jiyeon opens hers, and Jieun swallows quietly. This is when the morning takes a bad turn.
"What happened last night?" Jiyeon asks, her voice low, her expression confused. "My head hurts. Is this what a hangover feels like?"
"Um," Jieun squeaks. She can't remember whose bright idea it was again to get smashed on graduation night.
They stare at each other quietly for a while, and Jieun can tell Jiyeon is slowly going over the events of last night in her head. She knows she is.
The're both still fully clothed but Jieun remembers it so clearly, the taste of Jiyeon's mouth on her own; the feel of Jiyeon's curves beneath her hands.
"I... think we passed out from too much alcohol," Jieun murmurs.
She doesn't want Jiyeon thinking too much about it. She doesn't want to be thinking too much about it. Too much mulling over the night before isn't going to bring about good things, she knows.
Jiyeon stays quiet, so Jieun doesn't say anything either, at least until Jiyeon suddenly bolts up into a sitting position, mumbling something about, "This is wrong. This is just... wrong."
"What is?" Jieun asks, even though she already knows exactly what.
They look at each other again, and Jieun can tell that Jiyeon is just as pained as she is feeling.
Jiyeon doesn't answer her, but just looks away. Jieun gets up into a sitting position.
"I..." Jieun starts to say. I love you, she wants to say. You're the prettiest girl I know and you're my best friend and I just want you.
But she doesn't because she knows she can't.
"I..." Jiyeon says at the same time.
They look at each other again, but Jieun is too scared to say something because she knows whatever she says will probably be the wrong thing.

"Of course," Jiyeon says, with forced, tiny smile. "We're best friends."
