for the last prompt :)

the world is ending tomorrow, she remembers the moment she wakes up. okay.

the silence is deafening outside - she takes a peek at the window, and seeing the empty streets, figures that everyone's already left for their hometowns, despite it being so expensive these days (trust those fishy businessmen to milk the end of the world for all it's worth). she turns back and heads for the bathroom, clutching her dear orange toothbrush with slight nostalgia. "i won't see you tomorrow," she tells it affectionately, and in return it goes gentle on her teeth for that one last time.

she finds tiffany in the kitchen, idly flipping channels - "suicide rates are reaching a new high-" says the particularly teary newsreader - and grabs the remaining piece of her toast on the plate.

tiffany notices it and frowns, but doesn't complain; jessica knows why. she's milking the melodrama for all it's worth too, after all. she leans against the chair, watching tiffany watch the tv, and a fond smile tugs at her lips.

"are you ready?" she asks, when the news is finally done -- "i love you mom," the news reader had said finally, breaking down on live tv - ah, well, it's not like that matters anymore.

tiffany gulps down the soda. "sure, yeah."

it's already crowded when they arrive. jessica can see mats lying all around; families have probably settled here since the news broke out, and the entrance is free as well (who cares about money now?). she manages to tug tiffany away, hopping and skipping over the bodies that cover every inch of the sand and into the infinite sea, where there's no dearth of space. the waves splash around their bare legs and tiffany giggles, but jessica manages to maintain her calm.

she looks at the bright sky, the sun taking its last breath, and says a fond farewell. then she turns to tiffany, smiling.

"let's stay here forever," she suggests, letting their fingers intertwine.

i love the sweet, gentle approach to the apocalypse here. somehow, it makes me want to welcome the end of the world when it comes.

ahhh anon watch it! it's possibly one of the most beautiful anime there - and tbh, i dont think the spoilers will detract from it or anything. it's been ages since i watched it though, sigh.

thank you so much anon! :3
