It took me quite a while to figure Onew out lol. See, he’s all retarded and flaily and clumsy on variety shows, but after you observe him more closely, you can kind of see through it. Idk, imho I think he is clumsy (I don’t think he’d have voluntarily faked that tripped-down-the-stairs-and-knocked-his-teeth-out incident), but because people laugh when he does ridiculous stuff like that, he plays it up more often (i.e. body gags) and does it a lot. Like seriously, a lot. In Hello Baby there are at least ten times when he acts all retarded and falls down, but most of the time I think he sort of um, faked it (i.e. that Hanbok fashion show part where he tripped accidentally-on-purpose). I don’t really mind, but sometimes it makes me feel weird and sad and I’m all oh Onew you don’t have to do this to get screen time you know :\
Which brings me to what he was like at the start! During SHINee Yunhanam, it was pretty obvious that he was kind of awkward and uh… not able to socialize properly. There was that BTS clip where Jongkey were joking and playing around, and Onew was obviously trying to cut in, but they totally blew him off lol. He looked a little hurt, but I think he was probably used to it? Anyway, I think his social awkwardness comes from the fact that he’s an only child, which is why he was probably not really used to living/hanging out a lot with other people close to his age.
Onew’s really, really sweet though! I think he really takes care of the other boys a lot, especially since he’s the oldest and the leader. In that Hello Baby episode where he and Key are forced to wash the dishes and Key asks him if he can go off to play with Yoogeun (even though technically it was Key’s punishment in the first place lmao), he just says “yeah, you can go and play” and washed all the dishes by himself. It was like heartmeltz and rainbows and butterflies lol but :’D
The bad part about his sweetness is that I think he puts a lot of responsibility on himself. Sometimes he really looks exhausted, and according to Leeteuk he’s part of the Milk Club (which is the club for depressed people in SM Entertainment). I think he doesn’t really want to show his weak and more emotional side though, which is probably why he plays the clumsy and retarded card way too much.
He also doesn’t seem to be able to really really get on well with SHINee. I mean, I’m sure he really loves them and they’re close, but I think he’s more comfortable with people his own age? Jonghyun’s only a year younger than he is, but Jjong is off with Key most of the time, and I guess he probably feels a little left out. He’s really close to Wooyoung and Taecyeon, and a lot of fancams have shown them talking/laughing/hugging. He was also pretty close to his seniors in that musical, and I think he was really happy that he got the chance to be with people older than him, which sort of takes the responsibility of being the oldest off his shoulders. In Hello Baby, he also mentioned that all his friends his age (outside of the company) have all enrolled in the army, which probably makes him feel a little alone too.
As mentioned before in one of the variety shows (can’t remember lol), Onew’s parents work in a meat shop (which is probably where he got his fanatical love of chicken from lol). There were rumors of him bringing meat along to one of his high school trips to share with his friends, and his parents were also the ones who sponsored the BBQ in Hello Baby lol. Apparently being able to own a shop in Korea means that you’re pretty well-off, so yeah, the Lee family (lmao sorry it sounds so cool to call them that) must be quite okay in terms of finance. He also studied in SM Academy before debut, which supposedly has quite high school fees, so yep.

I think he’s already given his first kiss because in Hello Baby when Jonghyun mentioned about kissing, Onew totally went stiff, and Jonghyun was LOL-ing and how scared he looked. There have been rumors of him being in a relationship rn but idk with who lol.
AFTER SEEING HIM IRL,
I think he really loves his fans. A lot. After that stalking their van in the carpark session, he seemed a little surprised and pleased to see so many people there waiting for him, and gave us his usual adorable smile lmao!
During the e-awards, he was really sweating like whoa. Seriously, his whole face was pouring with sweat lmao! I think he really put in a lot of effort to perform :)
Onew -> Jonghyun (Jongyu):
The two oldest, the hyungs of the group. Technically they should be the Yunjae of the group, but for some reason that title has gone to Jongkey lmao. But anyway, they’re the two responsible for reprimanding the other boys and keeping them in check. Jonghyun once mentioned on a radio show that the two of them are the ones who scold the other three - with Onew being the nice one and Jonghyun being the well, meaner one. Both of them are also the two best singers of the group (no one can really judge who’s the better one lol. Onew has a really soothing voice and Jonghyun can hit the ridiculously high notes), and they both said once that they really love to sing together. They’re really adorable together, and one of them mentioned once on a radio show that they’re sort of the parents of the group?
Onew -> Key (Onkey):
Honestly, it’s rare to see Onkey interaction, especially in the earlier debut days. It sort of seemed like Onew was a little… scared of Key? He sort of kept out of Key’s way, anyway, and Key didn’t talk much to him either lol. The only times he had any interaction with Key was to try and win his approval and Key kind of ignored him most of the time lmao. They also aren’t really touchy-feely with each other (that Hello Baby BTS clip of Onew raping molesting tickling Key was seriously a once in a blue moon moment lol).
Onew -> Minho (Onho):
Somehow Onho seems even rarer than Onkey lmao. I think they really have a hyung-dongsaeng relationship (as in definitely platonic and nothing more, I really don’t see how they’d be able to survive in a relationship lol). They both have that mutual respect thing going on though, imo.
Onew -> Taemin (Ontae):
Onew really adores Taemin in an omg-he’s-so-cute way, seeing as they have a four-year age difference. In terms of mental age though, I think they’re not that far off lmao, especially when they’re joking around and being silly together. Irl during the showcase, he touched Taemin’s face and it was toothache-inducing sweet *_*

He’s really close to his sister (2 years older than him), and even in the brain map he drew in Hello Baby he indicated that he was thinking of her as well. Imo though, from his personality it was pretty obvious that he had a noona. Idk he just gives off that vibe haha. I think his sister dotes on him a lot, and he really loves her too, seeing as he bought Roo for her birthday present. In Hello Baby, he also mentioned about his mother’s birthday, so I think he’s really close to her too. He’s said before that the two people he loves the most in the world are his sister and mother (something along those lines anyway lol).
In high school, he was in band and uh apparently encountered some ~spiritual beings~ while practicing before, as he’d mentioned in that School of Rock episode once. He has a bass, and he plays the piano too. I think he really likes musical instruments, and in Yunhanam he also said that he wants his girlfriend to be able to play the piano for him while he sings. But um anyway, he’s also mentioned that he likes his voice, and a lot of Jjong antis use that as a weapon about how stuck-up he is. Honestly though, I think he’s not egoistic or narcissistic - he loves to sing, which is why he probably loves to listen to his voice lmao. In terms of music producing, he wrote the lyrics for Juliette after he spent a lot of time watching Romeo & Juliet (which also resulted in his love for Olivia Hussey haha). He’s also mentioned once that he keeps a notebook to jot down his lyrics and thoughts. I don’t think he particularly likes sports though, he once made a passing comment about how he hated P.E. in school lol!
Jonghyun’s ideal type is a short girl with pale skin and red lips who can play the piano, as seen in his ideal types Shin Sekyung, Shim Min-ah and Olivia Hussey lol! (Btw fun fact, Shin Sekyung already has a boyfriend lmao good luck Jjong!) In terms of girls, he seems a bit awkward with people he doesn’t really know (i.e. in Yunhanam when he put the noona’s shoes into the water lolll), but probably has a lot of female friends. He’s really close to SNSD imo - during SNSD’s Shanghai concert, he was smearing cake all over Jessica’s face and dying of laughter at her (which she later got revenge for by throwing her towel at him lmao). On a radio show with SNSD, Yuri/Sooyoung also mentioned that Jonghyun is quite offhand around them so they’re probably close. Also, I think he’s probably had quite a fair share of girlfriends idk haha!
The thing about Jonghyun is that he’s pretty self-aware about how he looks like on camera. He doesn’t really want to completely let go of his consciousness and go really crazy (although I have a feeling that he’s a lot more retarded irl, from backstage fancams he’s always jumping around and flailing his arms in the air lmao), which is why he gets sulky and whiny whenever Onew makes fun of him (i.e. imitating his singing in Jojo and Love Like Oxygen). In the early Hello Baby episodes when Yoogeun ignored him a lot, he tried a little to win Yoogeun’s heart, but after that he sort of gave up and got a little sulky.
He’s short and he knows it. I remember way back during their debut he was taller than Taemin, and then Taemin suddenly shot up and everyone was like :O haha! He always makes jokes and references about his (lack of) height, so I think he’s used to people laughing at him. Because of his height complex, I think he works out a lot more to uh, make up for it (same thing with Jay imo haha). He also eats the least for some reason - in Hello Baby when Taemin was scooping rice from the members he was all “oops, Jonghyun-hyung doesn’t eat a lot” hahaha.

Another thing that some antis hate about Jonghyun is about how he’s constantly harping about “no one can be on the same side forever” in Hello Baby and betraying everyone he works with lol. It’s probably mostly a joke though, Jonghyun does seem to be the type to be fiercely loyal to his friends.
People have said that the Kim family is relatively well to do, especially since Jonghyun used to study in a music school before he debuted (and those fees are apparently quite pricey). Idk though, he hasn’t really mentioned anything much.
AFTER SEEING HIM IRL,
I think he can’t really mask his emotions well. During the e-awards, he was visibly annoyed because of something, and he didn’t even bother to smile for the fans (although he did a lot of act cool stuff lol). The next day during the fansign he was a lot more cheerful though (and even did that aegyo peace sign aofiuapwef), especially after we sang the birthday song for him haha! Imo though, he does enjoy the attention from fans (also seen in Hello Baby when walking down the street and people commented on how handsome he looked/screamed at the sight of him - he was obviously pleased and happy lol).
About masking emotions - Jonghyun is the second Park Yoochun lmao. He is a crybaby; when they won for Juliette he seriously broke down and wept into Leeteuk’s shoulders lmao!
Jonghyun -> Onew (Jongyu):
I’m not going to talk about all the things I already said during the previous part, so. Jonghyun really respects Onew in terms of music and all, although Jonghyun is a lot more passionate in this area. Other than that though, as the two oldest members, I think they probably talk a lot about more serious stuff that they don’t want to burden the other younger members with (again, Yunjae lmao). Both of them once named each other as the kindest member of the group, and Jonghyun looked really touched when Onew said it lol.
Jonghyun -> Key (Jongkey):
The best friends that grew up training together! There have been a lot of pre-debut pictures of the two of them floating around and they look absolutely precious lol. Btw, they’ve also mentioned spending birthdays together pre-debut, so. Key is also the one that Jonghyun touches the most (no really I’m not hinting at anything here rofl), and I think it’s because the two of them are very comfortable around each other. They do seem like the type that would bicker a lot though, so I think they’ve probably had quite a lot of arguments before. Way back in Yunhanam, as I mentioned during the part about Onew, the two of them sort of excluded Onew when they were playing together. Honestly though, I don’t think the two of them really meant it - I think the two of them are so close that when they play around they sometimes forget about the rest of the world lol.
Jonghyun -> Minho (Jongho):
I used to think this was a really rare pair until I saw them irl lol. When standing in stage formation, Minho is the Jongkey cockblock separator, which is why when Jonghyun wants to say anything, he has to tell Minho lmao. They whisper a lot together and laugh sometimes, and it’s really really very cute. Onscreen though, Minho doesn’t seem to treat Jonghyun very seriously (i.e. making jibes about his height etc), and Jonghyun seems to be fine with that somehow lol. The two of them share a room in their new apartment (all five of them used to sleep in the same room, but then they moved) so I guess they’re probably quite close.

Jonghyun -> Taemin (Jongtae):
Apparently these two have known each other the longest (shocker, I’d thought it would have been Key at first). There have been rumors that this is because both their mothers had been in the entertainment industry once, which was how they knew each other as kids, but that has no evidence lol. Jonghyun babies Taemin a lot - he’s always ruffling his hair and beaming at him all proudly, and I think like in Onew’s case, he finds Taemin absolutely adorable. Fun fact: whenever Jonghyun isn’t around, it’s Taemin who takes over his parts, probably because their voices sound a little similar lol.

He comes across as the most um, confused in terms of sexual orientation amongst the group because of how girly he behaves. I think I’ve seen countless of gifs of him spazzing and clinging onto Jonghyun when he gets a shock lol! He’s also said a lot of times that he doesn’t see SNSD as women (hdu, Key, hdu), and once talked about how he got a serious shock when he saw girl group members doing their make-up in their vans all unglamorously haha.
He’s very close to his grandparents (especially his grandmother) apparently. His family lives in Daegu; Key also studied there and was a “gifted water-skier” (Wikipedia’s words, not mine lmao) apparently.
Key loves the camera. When SHINee first debuted, he practically hogged the camera every second, and even Mnet did a small clip about it before lol! He was basically going “my name is Key~” every time he got the chance to hahaha. I think he really thrives on the attention.
Key is called Key Umma because of way back in Yunhanam lmao. When Taemin went on his date with the noona, Key was the one who fixed sandwiches for him. After that he went all scary and said “MY SON IS NOT ALLOWED TO DATE GIRLS LIKE THIS” (or something along those lines anyway). The other members have also mentioned that it is Key who goes around ordering them to clean up their rooms. Key’s cooking skills are a bit under question though (unlike Jaejoong) - in Yunhanam it was shown that he had no idea how to cook rice lmao.
He has the most friends of his age, probably because of the ’91 clique. He’s really close to the people born in 1991-1992, especially Jinwoon (2AM), Seunghyun (FT Island) and Nicole (Kara). Every time they’re on a show together, Key looks really happy and from the way he talks to Jinwoon and Seunghyun, you can tell they’re very close friends. Because of the whole telling Nicole to go on a diet thing, a lot of people were angry but I think that sort of shows how close they are. I don’t think he meant harm though, he probably wanted to point it out to her before DSP scolded her or something haha. There were also photos of Key and Nicole surfacing on the internet, walking close together on the street. SME later said that they were studying for their exams together. I think he’s also relatively close to some girls from SNSD (he said three, but after he said Jessica the host cut him off so idk who the other two are lmao). Fun fact: he’s also mentioned before that back in school, he got a lot of love letters from juniors lmao!
Key loves fashion. He’s mentioned before that his ideal type needs to have a good fashion sense and dress well, which goes to show how he pays a lot of attention to dressing. He and Jonghyun have described their style to be more “street style”, and I have no idea what that means lmao.
Talking about ideal types, there have been rumors that Key is dating someone. Apparently the two of them go way back since before debut, she’s in a girl group, and he’s been considering very seriously about going open about their relationship.
Key is a good dancer, probably the second best in the group after Taemin. That’s probably in terms of techniques though, Key’s mentioned before that he picks up dances extremely quickly - he manages to learn it once he’s seen it before. Which explains his skills in dancing girl group dances lol.

Key -> Onew (Onkey):
Imo there used to be a period of time when he thought Onew was this ridiculous bumbling idiot who liked to crack non-funny jokes (Onew Sangtae~). When Onew is not being a loser though, I think he’s fine with Onew - especially the past year -, and even shows his affection for him randomly like whispering “I love you” to him on a radio show. Key seems to be the one bossing Onew around instead of the other way round though lol.
Key -> Jonghyun (Jongkey):
The BFFs! As mentioned before, the two of them are really close. The thing about their friendship is that Jonghyun tends to play around a lot of with other people as well, so sometimes (but no often) Key is left hanging. Idk there was this fanaccount of Jonghyun talking and laughing with SNSD and Key was just staring at them lmao. Recently though, Key seems to be getting a lot closer to the people his age, so I think this evens the balance back out. It seems like he used to be really dependent on Jonghyun, but not as much now, although they are still close.
Key -> Minho (Minkey):
The two of them are the only two of the group who are of the same age, so they have no hyung-dongsaeng reservations. Key tends to be a little meaner and less reserved around Minho, sometimes doing stuff like cutting him off when he was still talking lol. I’m not really an “OPPAR DIDN’T MEAN IT” person, but I genuinely think that Key doesn’t mean to be rude most of the time.
Key -> Taemin (Taekey):
Key absolutely loves Taemin, even more so than Jonghyun and Onew do. He obviously thinks Taemin is the most adorable being on earth, which is why he babies Taemin a lot, and is always doing stuff like tidying up his clothes and brushing his hair for him. However, he’s also mentioned that Taemin’s been listening less to him and “growing up”, so I think Taemin does feel a little smothered by him sometimes. Imo Key is learning to let go, so as to speak, but it seems like he’d be the most lenient with Taemin. In the New Zealand photobook BTS, Key also reminded Taemin to be careful when he was cycling lol. The two of them share a room.

After he’s become more outgoing, it’s also pretty obvious that the boy is freakishly competitive. Maybe it’s because he’s a sports person, but he basically wants to win in every single thing. I’m a little surprised that he managed to conceal it so well in Yunhanam (although he did mention he was disappointed when no one picked him) though lol, because now in Hello Baby and all when he doesn’t get chosen he throws a silent (or sometimes not so silent) tantrum. So yeah basically he’s a sore loser who gets all sulky when he loses.
Which brings us to the point that Minho loves sports. Seriously, I think he’s an addict. The members have also mentioned that he’s good in every sport e.g. basketball, soccer (loves it with his life - before debuting, he always thought he was going to be a soccer player when he grew up), running etc. It probably has something to do with the fact that his father is a soccer coach though lol. He’s also the tallest member in the group, and looks absolutely gorgeous when he models.
Minho is the hyung-collector. He’s close to a lot of hyungs like Changmin (DBSK) - THE TWO OF THEM ARE ABSOLUTELY ADORABLE URGHHHHHH -, Junho (2PM) - from Dream Team, probably -, and most of the Super Junior members. I think it’s probably because Minho has an older brother so he can sort of… relate to them better? Idk. Out of all the hyungs, he’s the closest to Changmin I think! He’s talked about Changmin on shows before, imitates Changmin’s Mirotic scream and there’s that wonderful backstage clip of Changmin saying he cried because Minho was too handsome and Minho was all “hyunnnnng~”. Not to mention that little mix-up where a magazine thought Minho was Changmin’s girlfriend lmao (long story).
AFTER SEEING HIM IRL,
I think I liked him a lot more lol. Really though, he’s tall and gorgeous and breathtaking when you see him close-up. Kind of gives you a shock because he looks like he just stepped out of the pages of a magazine lmao :) he doesn’t seem particularly affected by fans, imo he treats fans like an oh-hi-you’re-here-again-nice-to-see-you way lmao.

Minho -> Jonghyun (Jongho):
They actually tease each other a lot, especially in Hello Baby when they both fight over Yoogeun lol. When Jonghyun won Minho in terms of Yoogeun’s affection once he kept yelling about how at least he won Choi Minho. I think they’re pretty close although they don’t show it a lot onscreen.
Minho -> Key (Minkey):
Like I mentioned, Key used to be a lot more abrupt around Minho, and Minho just put up with it. But after he got a lot more open and outgoing, he’s taken to retorting right back to Key, which usually ends up in bickering (especially in Hello Baby when they fight over Yoogeun). I think he’s a little annoyed by Key’s constant need of being the centre of attention, but lets it slide most of the time - when he feels it’s too much though, he fights back. They’re obviously close though, because sometimes onscreen Minho has a slip of the tongue and calls Key Kibum, although he doesn’t do that with Onew lol.
Minho -> Taemin (2min):
I never really thought much about this pairing before the appearance of that epic 2min fancam where Taemin leaped onto Minho and they had a gigantic hug and looked like they were going to kiss lol. After that I went around watching more 2min fancams and realized this: Minho really loves to hit Taemin’s butt. Seriously. I think it’s one of the things they just… do, but he always does it. It’s more like a motherly pat but idk

Taemin’s a really good dancer. I don’t know much about the actual technical skills, but you can tell that he really puts in a lot of effort and energy whenever he dances. He also plays the piano really well; he performed River Flows in You on one of the music shows once and played the piano accompaniment for 8eight’s performance of Goodbye My Heart, I think?
The thing about Taemin is that the whole world thinks he’s cute, and he knows this too, which is why sometimes he plays it up to get whatever he wants. In Hello Baby when he was grocery shopping with Minho, he totally just took whatever he wanted even when Minho asked him to put it back. Then he promptly escaped and left Minho to settle the money by himself.
This is linked to the point that Taemin has sort of been the maknae his entire life lol, since he has an older brother and he’s the youngest of the group. He’s probably used to aegyo-ing his way into whatever he wants, although he seems to be a little smothered by the attention sometimes, especially when it comes to Key.
Being the maknae, he’s also the one who is bullied the most in the group. In Korea, the youngest is supposed to be respectful and listen to whatever the older people tell you, which is why he is usually chucked with the job of washing plates etc. He’s also bullied outside the group - in school, to be exact. There have been fanaccounts of people seeing students throw stationery at Taemin, and pictures of him looking really depressed whenever he’s in school. No one knows why though; it could be because Taemin is an idol or something, or maybe he’s too used to getting what he wants and comes off as a brat sometimes.
AFTER SEEING HIM IRL,
He is adorable. He was clearly excited to travel overseas, and during the e-awards especially, he was practically hyperventilating from happiness lmao. When he was dancing he also looked really happy to see so many fans there. He also looked carefully at all our signboards and even smiled at us (or maybe the signboard itself lmao idk). During the rehearsals, he also waved at us (or at least I think that was him rofl).
Taemin -> Onew (Ontae):
He seems to adore Onew as well, so it’s a two-way thing. Taemin isn’t a mean person, so he doesn’t bully Onew as much when it comes to his Santae-ness lol. I think Onew is really nice and sweet to him, which is why he’s nice and sweet back as compared to…
Taemin -> Jonghyun (Jongtae):
The two of them joke around a lot, which is why Taemin is a bit less polite and formal when it comes to Jonghyun. During the age-swap game in Hello Baby, he obviously targets all his vengeance on Jonghyun instead of Onew, which probably says a lot about their relationship. He does love Jonghyun a lot too, and there are fancams of him clinging onto Jonghyun or running to him and hugging him.
Taemin -> Key (Taekey):
Honestly, I think sometimes Taemin gets annoyed by how protective Key is over him, which led to the whole “Taemin is growing up” thing Key said. Most of the time he’s fine with it though, especially when it aids him in getting what he wants (case in point: sandwiches).
Taemin -> Minho:
I think he’s the closest to Minho, judging by the way they behave. The other members do dote on Taemin a lot, but it’s Minho whom we see Taemin voluntarily interact with the most. He sort of takes advantage of how nice Minho is to him though, so he acts a little like a spoilt brat sometimes. Minho is still ridiculously accepting towards him though (when it comes to Taemin, Minho sort of resembles Key in this way), and I think Taemin does feel guilty about this sometimes, which is why he shows affection towards Minho the most.
