Kikwang likes to keep things simple. He’s not stupid, no matter what the other members of his band may occasionally insist, he just doesn’t see the point in stressing out over things that don’t matter.

Who cares if the box of cereal gets left on the table or if last week’s dirty laundry somehow gets shoved under their beds? They’re just going to need the cereal again the next morning and they’ve got more than enough clothing between them that they’ll never have to wear the same thing twice for a year. Idol or not, he’s just another young guy enjoying life away from his parents. It’s practically blasphemy to be all neat and orderly.

Besides, he kind of likes the way Junhyung’s eyebrows draw together and he puffs up like a bantam rooster whenever he goes to find something and it’s not in exactly the spot that he thinks it belongs. Sometimes Kikwang moves things just to watch Junhyung react.

Junhyung’s reactions to most things are endlessly amusing to Kikwang.

His own reactions to Junhyung are a little less amusing.

Kikwang is a tactile person and always has been. He likes to touch and be touched and it’s not uncommon to find him curled up to or around any one of his band mates. They’re used to it by now and they all humor him to varying degrees, but only Junhyung makes him shiver with a simple arm slung over his shoulders.

Only Junhyung’s smile makes his stomach clench and turn like a thousand butterflies are trying to fly their way out.

He catches himself doing the strangest things trying to impress the cool, suave rapper and then wanting to smack himself because really?

His own parents don’t even know him as well as his band mates do - the good and the bad - and it’s impossible to impress someone who knows you that well. The attempts always end up making him look even more stupid than he already does and leave him once again the cause of much laughter and merriment for all.

Which in turn makes him all fluttery again at the idea that he can make Junhyung laugh.

He’s not stupid and he recognizes the signs.

It keeps him up some nights when he knows he should be sleeping and it’s what drives him to slip out of bed and head to the only place he’s relatively sure he can brood without disturbing anyone else.

He likes his own kind of order just as much as Junhyung does, he just finds it in the simplicity of a clear head and the easy rhythm of good hard exercise.

This is his system, his balance, and his structure.

Stretching always comes first because he knows the importance of warming up his muscles and the dangers of pulling or straining something.

That’s always followed by push ups. Sometimes he sets a specific goal, sometimes he just goes until he starts feeling it in his arms.

Afterwards, he flips over onto his back and does sit ups.

At the end, if he’s not being rushed off to do this or that, he runs.

The entire process helps him clear his mind of whatever troubles or stressors are bothering him. It’s like his mind and life are a marker board and the routine is a cloth that lets him wipe it clean of all the unimportant or heavy clutter and start fresh.

He doesn’t get to really push himself to the most effective limits very often anymore, even though he figures he probably needs it more now than he ever did during training. They’re too busy, their schedules far too full to allow for the time it takes.

But this one morning, he’s glad they’re mostly free and he’s got all the time he needs.

Junhyung comes in before he’s even half way through his sit ups and Kikwang kind of wants to wiggle underneath the hamper and scream a little.

So much for clearing his mind of what was weighing on it.

Still, he can’t deny that Junhyung looks adorable all sleepy eyed with his hair sticking out at odd angles. The rapper doesn’t really start to wake up into his usual cool, untouchable self until he’s been upright for at least an hour and been properly caffeinated.

When he realizes he’s been caught staring, Kikwang’s mouth starts to run away without his consent or control and he doesn’t even quite realize how mundane and stupid it is until Junhyung’s gives him that look, the one reserved for when he’s questioning whether or not Kikwang has a fully functioning brain.

“No. Yes. Don’t stop, I just. He left it on the floor last night. They’re sleeping in.”

“Oh… Right.” He wonders if Junhyung’s opinion of his intelligence would get any lower if he started beating his head against the floor?

Probably.

Of course, Junhyung isn’t sounding any more coherent than Kikwang is and he can’t help but smile slightly at the thought.

Morning time is the great equalizer in the Beast household.

He starts in surprise as the older man sits down on his feet.

“I said ‘don’t stop’.”

Kikwang gapes at the back of Junhyung’s head as the other gets comfortable, leaning against his knees, but it’s he can’t deny that the promise of quiet companionship is appealing.

He huffs in amusement under his breath before replying. “Okay, okay.”

It’s surprisingly easy to slip back into his rhythm despite the fact that every move emphasizes the fact that he’s not alone with his routine or his thoughts any longer.

This time the clarity he finds has nothing to do with a blank slate in his mind.

As he counts under his breath, his mind circles around the man against his legs.

It’s comfortable and safe and he drags the sit ups out long past the point when he’d normally have gotten up to go for a run.

Eventually, though, even he can’t continue and he shifts his feet out from under Junhyung’s butt and moves forward to slump over Junhyung’s shoulder. He grins as Junhyung startles slightly.

“You done?”

Kikwang nods and it’s the easiest thing in the world to brush a kiss against Junhyung’s cheek. “Thank you.”

Arching a brow, Junhyung accepts the kiss without so much as batting an eye. “For what?”

But the answer to that is too scattered and chaotic for Kikwang to really put into words so instead he just shrugs as he stands up and reaches out.

When Junhyung’s hand slips into his, Kikwang’s cheeks actually kind of hurt from how big his smile gets.

Even once Junhyung is standing, Kikwang doesn’t let go and though Junhyung gives him a mildly questioning look, he doesn’t protest.

Which is just as well because Kikwang might be feeling at one with his place in the universe, but he’s sure he’d end up bumbling it if he tried to explain that holding Junhyung’s hand is exactly where his is supposed to be.
